Aukey Dash Cam PP-YY Hardwired kit
Why do Chinese manufactures insist on using grey 3M VHB sticky pads, when black is far better for black tinted windscreens?I really wanted this device to work, as I had returned an Apeman C860 dash cam because when it is hardwired the dash cam in parking mode, records 24/7 permanently. This device has a sensor installed so it should only record when movement is detected.I purchased the DR02D dash cam and the PP-YY hardwire kit as it had a parking mode that only records if it senses motion 2 to 3 meters from the vehicle and 360 degrees around the car (how that work I don’t know). The first one I purchased didn’t work, it powered the dash cam, but didn’t record any motion, so I sent it back and ordered a replacement. In the meantime I powered the dash cam from a standard regulated power supply found on Amazon and the Aukey dash cam also records 24/7 permanently.I received my replacement PP-YY hardwired kit, installed at the top of the windscreen as instructed and I have been testing it over 2 weeks. The bulit-in power regulator works and it sends power to the dash cam ok. When the car is parked the PP-YY sensor powers down the Aukey dash cam and wait’s for movement, i.e. the dash cam, is powered off. When the sensor senses movement the PP-YY sensor sends power to the dash cam and it powers up and it starts recording. This is a major problem with this device. When movement is detected the sensor powers up the dash cam, which takes about 10 seconds to start to record, so valuable seconds of recordings are not recorded. This delay in recording could be the difference between catching the culprit on the memory card who damaged your car or having a nice photo of tail lights disappearing in the distance, or out of shot completely. I know it’s an Aukey dash cam, I don’t need the company logo displayed on the screen every time the dash cam comes to life, I want the dash cam to start recording straight away and record the movement within 1 to 2 seconds after the sensor is activated.I have walked out of my porch doorway to my car, then walked backwards and forwards across the front of the car for 20 seconds and then back in to my property. On viewing the recording, I’m already there and only for 5 seconds before I return to my property. This 15 seconds is the time the sensor takes to recognise me and power up the dash cam - too long! The second problem is Aukey say to attach the sensor to the top of the windscreen, I have found it works better towards the bottom of the windscreen, but I cannot fit it there permanently and the cable are not long enough. This problem could be that most windscreens are at approximately 45 degree angle, so the sensor is not looking forwards, it’s looking upwards. The sensor case needs to be shaped, so it looks downwards from the top of the windscreen, so it looks 2 to 3 mtrs in from of the car.I have emailed Aukey twice from their website asking how this motion sensor works, but they have never replied.I decided to send this device back and fit a standard regulated power supply found on Amazon. I would rather it record 24/7 and catch who has damaged my car than keep this device and miss valuable second of recorded data.

Caution needed for this product.
Purchasers should be aware that the power supply plug (the top bit shown in the product photo) slots into the vehicle's diagnostic socket. With my car I could not replace the plastic panel that normally covers that socket. I therefore didn't use it. There are no instructions on how to rewire so that a fused supply can be drawn from the car's fuse box. I asked a local auto electrician and he recommended against using it.

Intermittent power issues
Rubbish. I am using this with the Aukey DR02 D dash cam and it has intermittent power issues meaning it continually turns off and on whilst driving. Really annoying.

Motion sensor causes power to shut off occasionally
This device uses a microwave based motion sensor. Once motion is detected, it turns on the output for 30 seconds. Unless further motion is detected within this time, the output will turn off.It is good at detecting motion inside the vehicle like waving your hand but not very good at detecting motion of the vehicle itself (vibration, acceleration etc). This means if you sit still while driving, the output will occasionally turn off!It is a shame because the device itself is well made, it just doesn't quite work 100%

Faulty intermittent power device
This item is very intermittent, more often than not it will provide no power to the device when driving, leaving you without the security of a dashcam. I have had this professionally fitted and am very unhappy inviting going to have to pay a professional to take my car apart again to remove the faulty product and then again when I find a suitable replacement. Very disappointed!
