Gripping read!
Not my usual genre but I started reading and found I was immediately hooked. The characters are interesting and developed well as the story progressed. There were plenty of twists and turns in the plot and one I really wasn’t expecting.Give this book a read - you won’t be disappointed!

Domestic thriller with twists and turns to the end
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The Adopted Daughter by J.J. Burgess is a mystery thriller novel about Alice and Richard, a couple who are about to go into their retirement sailing round the Mediterranean sea. Then a week before they go a young woman knocks on the door called Sally saying she is Richard's daughter who he did not know about. As a reader I found this plot book gripping with all the twists and turns which make for a great novel from this genre and would recommend it to any reader, however due to the way this book is written some people may have some difficulty with the novel.Firstly the story is told through Alice a majority of the time with Richard having the odd chapter every now and then,The multi perspective of the story is not what may turn some readers of but the way that the story jumps in time for example you get a chapter from Alice’s point of view, the a number of chapters down the line you will get the same scene in a chapter through Ricards point of view, or even through Alice’s again but as a reader you know more information. This is done really well by the writer J. J, Burgess which means as a reader it is easy to follow where you are in the story due to their writing,

Great story
Wow, what an intriguing, twisted psychological thriller this was!! Alice and Richard are characters you think are living the dream and then Sally turns up. This book had me hooked from the start and I devoured it within 2 days. It was fast paced, full of great characters who were so devious. I loved the beginning, the middle and especially the ending. Definitely worth a read and i will undeniably pick another book by this author.

A good read
How would anyone react if suddenly, a woman, out of the blue appears on your doorstep claiming to be your husband's daughter. A regular couple happily preparing for sailing the Med in retirement.Twists and turns, intrigue, emotions, doubts, mistrust all combine to make this a thrilling read. Are people really as they seem, or are they good at hiding things?.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a find
JJ Burgess is a new author for me and what a find if this book is anything to go by. I loved the book and practically read it in one sitting. JJ Burgess tells the story from the point of view of Alice and Richard but not in separate chapters as authors normally do. The exact same events are told from their different points of view and I thought this was such a clever idea. I also thought the plot was brilliant.Richard is about to retire from his prestigious job as Professor of Biology at Bristol University. Not from choice, he is leaving under duress. Richard is a thoroughly unlikeable character but Alice loves him and they are about to fulfil their dream of taking their newly refurbished sail boat around the Mediterranean. This of course is Richard’s dream and Alice, being a dutiful partner has taken sailing lessons so that she can partner him in their endeavour. A few days before they are due to leave comes a bolt from the blue. Richard has a daughter he knows nothing about. And that is when everything changes. From the moment Sally appears on the scene the shocks and twists start, making this book unputdownable. I had no idea where it was going and each new revelation kept me glued to my seat. The climax was brilliant. Would Richard and Alice survive?

Fast paced thriller
Richard & Alice seem a normal happy couple with hopes and dreams of leaving Bristol and sailing off into the sunset on their boat ‘Seas the day’…..Until one day a knock at the door changes everything. Who is Sally and is she really who she says she and is Richard really the man Alice thought he was???A thrilling story and fast paced with plenty of twists. I really enjoyed this book and it had me gripped right til the end.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
