THIS WORKS!!
I don't kill things and I needed a non lethal way to catch field mice. I deployed it and the next morning I had my first catch. This was the case 3 mornings in a row. I released them in the woods on their own recognizance. In just 3 days I have rid myself of this problem just using 1 trap in the same location. Also its reusable so essentially this is a great value. Job done!

Extremely Effective, This really is a better mouse trap!
This Tomcat Live Catch Mouse Trap trapped several mice. It seems the mice cannot resist it. After having many trees cut down in my yard and the stumps ground down, I was overrun by mice in my house. I hate mice with a passion. Every night when the sun went down, a mouse would get trapped inside. I would take the trap to the park across the street and empty it, hoping the mouse would not find it's way back. Every hour I would catch another mouse. Sometimes it is hard to empty the trap because the mice are afraid to leave or they wanted to continue eating the peanut butter. I had put this trap in the bathroom where I had seen the first mouse. Mice leave a trail of urine and feces wherever they go, which seems to draw more mice along that same trail. I did not wash my bathroom floor until I stopped catching mice. The trap is still in my bathroom and I have not caught a mouse for over a year. One hint: if you have a postage scale, weigh the trap empty. Then, if the sensitive door on the trap becomes closed, weigh it again. That will tell you whether there is a mouse inside. Mice may be very light and do not always move very much. You don't want to open the trap inside and give the mouse the ability to escape.I used JIF crunchy peanut butter in the trap, mice seem to like it as much as I do! If that is not available, Kroger crunchy peanut butter works well. Maybe any peanut butter or nuts work well, use what you like. When the single live catch and release became too much trouble, I bought a Flip N Slide Bucket Lid Mouse Trap. It can be used as a live trap or lethal when filled with water. It can catch many mice in a very short period of time. Again I used chunky peanut butter but I added some sunflower seeds to the peanut butter. I put this in the basement as I thought that is where the mice may be getting in. It filled up quickly with mice. I was completely disgusted and happy at the same time.As the weather gets colder again, I will make sure my traps (and myself) have fresh peanut butter. I will also buy another Flip N Slide Bucket Lid Mouse Trap for my detached garage. I don't want mice taking shelter in my car and destroying the upholstery and wiring. The Tomcat Live Catch Mouse Trap is the best mouse trap I have ever had for use in a living area. The Flip N Slide Bucket Lid Mouse Trap is the best for basements, garages, and sheds.Mice don't need to destroy your quality of life!

the houdinis of mice
i've caught 12 mice with these. there's one that's been escaping, so i might try combining this with a glue trap. i hate the idea, and it's a better thing [just the same] as the unsafety for both of us of it being in my apartment.

It does the job well!
I am at a complete loss in understanding how anyone can give this product a bad review, unless it was completely defective. Several days ago, I was about to go to bed when I saw a mouse sitting on my toaster in the dark. The shadow this little mouse made looked bigger than a rat and I scrambled to find my mouse traps in my basement. I do not have mice often, only every few years, and most things that I have on hand are the kill traps. I found the kill traps to be very hard to use emotionally. I do not like killing anything, so I set up my humane traps. I had a few Victor traps catch and release traps and just one of these traps. Honestly, I have no idea when I got this trap. I probably picked it up somewhere after my last bout with mice. I would soon learn that the Victor traps do NOTHING but tip me off that a mouse is in the vicinity. All of the Victor traps would shut before the mouse even got into the trap and I would hear it. It soon became apparent that THIS Tomcat live trap was the only one doing the job. I caught the mommy mouse on day 1. I quickly ordered two more of these traps and had to wait for them to come. No store near me had it in stock. The next day, still with this one trap and the other crappy traps, I caught the first baby and released it. Last night, I was up most of the night, exhausted, releasing three more babies every hour or so off of this one trap, all while the other crappy traps did nothing. The two other Tomcat live traps arrived today and I am hoping that I catch every mouse at last and that it is all over tonight. I need to sleep again! All that I can say is that this trap is fantastic, easy to use and my goodness, it DOES the job! I will never be without a few of these on hand again.

Works sometimes
These worked well inside our house. However, when we tried them in our garage they didn't work as well. Maybe the garage floor is uneven or the concrete's rough texture kept the door from latching? At any rate, about 2/3ds of the time we'd find that the mouse tripped the door to close, but the door didn't latch correctly and the mouse escaped. In one case, the door did latch and the mouse chewed its way to freedom overnight.Even when they did work, because the trap is black, we were not always sure if there was a mouse inside or not. We learned that if you GENTLY shake it you could tell if a mouse was inside. We also used a postal scale to weigh it. Empty it weighed 2.8 or 2.9 ounces. With a mouse it'd weigh a couple ounces more.We still use this type of trap in the house, but found another type of live trap worked better in the garage, and it's made of semi-clear plastic so we could see the mouse inside.
