Geemo and the Missing Egg

I picked up a copy of this book for a slightly different reason than some of the other reviewers. I am changing careers and will soon be teaching elementary school. I was looking for books to add to my collection that will be part of the room library. I was also looking for something "different" which could be used for more than simply a reading lesson. "Geemo" fits the bill beautifully.The story itself introduces us to Geemo the camel and is an engaging one. The book, written in English but "subtitled" in Arabic is written in the right-to-left format that would be used for Arabic (or Hebrew, for that matter) and serves as a terrific platform to discuss the differences in language and culture to even very young children. I think as a teacher, it is incumbent on me to find things that allow for a thematic approach in the classroom; something that will allow me to expand the lesson out of the realm of reading to touch social studies and geography, in this case.The illustrations are very colorful and very well done and I am hoping to see more adventures with Geemo and am looking forward to using this (and many other books) in my own classroom soon.

Didn't see any Arabic on this book. Don't get it.

Only the sentences in English showed, and there was a big blank box that followed each page with English, but there was no Arabic.

We just got this item today, our kids are 2 and 4 and we are trying to strengthen their arabic language as they are (naturally) much stronger in english (and to help mum with learning arabic too) this story is simple and short which is perfect for the purpose we bought it. Good for preschoolers and those who are learning arabic with basic concepts and repetition the story is simple enough that mum could understand it and read it with inflection even when reading the arabic but it's definitely not for older kids who are fluent in arabic already. Some of the words are in Egyptian dialect (not ideal) but mostly fusHa so it's not a major problem. Overall definitely recommend this for younger bilingual kids and those just learning to read arabic!

"Geemo and the missing egg" is a great book for children:A simple story about a smart camel and wonderful color illustrations captured my beautiful granddaughter attention and my hart.Dr. Shalaby and Mr. Ayoub did an excellent job with this book. Although, a simple story - it is telling a lot and teaching a lot. The story teaches a small child that is fine to read from right to left - which is common in Arab world and some other cultures. The book gives a small child a chance to learn and love Arabic - a language of amazing richness and flexibility.It answers the "why" question that all children love to ask (Geemo, why I can't lay an egg?"). In addition, this book is an amazing and simple instrument that parents can use to teach their English speaking children a new language. The children can learn numbers and colors - on English and Arabic, which is fantastic because - a new language can open up the world

Having read many books like Clifford the Big Red Dog and Dr Suess to my children I was so excited to find this wonderfully illustrated multilingual childrens book to give as a gift. The colors and the characters were well done and held the attention of my good friend's child. The little boy has made this his bedtime favorite. They take turns reading both english and arabic. I think it's great that childrens books are being written with multilingual text and I am looking forward to Geemo's next adventure.

As a sunday school teacher I think it is a very nice book to read and teach to preschoolers as well as seven and eight year olds. I read it to all my classes and applied Arabic grammatical concepts to the text.It was fun and exciting for all the classes ,they got excited withthe idea of a walking and talking camel. it is a creative and imaginative story and above all not translated. so it is truley genuine.On the graduation day we will have a short Arabic Act of the story.I am looking forward to reading more books for both the auther and illustrator. Keep up the good work.

I ordered this book for an 11 year old girl who speaks Arabic based on an earlier reviewer's endorsement for her 11 year old daughter. I was shocked that this $18 book contained a brief narrative that could easily fit on 1 typed page in 12 point Times New Roman font. I would only recommend this book for bilingual parents of preschoolers or toddlers who don't mind spending $18 on 10 minutes worth of entertainment for their child. The story about colored eggs and matching hens is simply too juvenile for anyone over age 6.
