This game is something else. It's not entirely new because - technically - this is an expansion to an existing universe of TMB but it is a stand-alone game that plays very well with two players and is possible to play solo. The mechanics are just excellent, well-thought through and brilliantly implemented with the multi-use dice. The quality of the pieces and the fact that all is waterproof just adds to the feel and excitement when you play the game. The rules have a lot of little nuances you have to mind to fully enjoy the game and play it correctly so do spend the time to read, re-read and have the user manual near you during the first few games but once you master everything, it is an immense dose of fun to play. Characters from other expansions/base game can be used, which allows for more than 2 player game!Level of difficulty: this game is not super easy to master and it's not super easy to win against the Tyrants. As you go along each battle becomes more difficult and that difficulty level raises rather fast, which is great IMHO because it posts a challenge. You have to pay attention and make a lot of important decisions about the development of your character. Also, you have to work with other members of your team to complement their skills. There is a way to victory against any opponent in any situation. Finding it is super engaging and very rewarding once you do!

Great game. Tons of fun.

My group has played through the previous 2 Too Many Bones sets as well as trying all but 3 of the extra purchasable characters. This expansion expands on the core components but in a bad way. We are usually able to finish a tyrant in 3-4 hours but with this expansion it's taking us around 6. We believe this is because of just how much we have to manage now. The lava mechanic is a pain to remember and maneuver all the characters around to adjust and all of the baddies seem to have multiple abilities and more spread out abilities. Unfortunately we feel like we spend more time managing the game components then playing the game with this expansion.
