Trakdot is not currently working and there is no news of a solution at 15th October 2018
It was good, while it lasted, there has been a service outage since early October. Trakdot sent this advice to users on 5th October:“As a follow-up to our communication last week, it has now been confirmed that major telecom providers have discontinued providing connectivity service for 2G devices. As you know, Trakdot™ Luggage Tracker is a 2G product, as are many similar tracking devices introduced at the time of Trakdot. While AT&T discontinued 2G services on January 1, 2017, T-Mobile announced in February they would also be deprecating 2G services. Additionally, the primary service supplier for Trakdot had been indicating over the last 18 months they would move to discontinue the service of 2G devices, but without any definitive date.It is now confirmed that as of September 30, 2018, the connectivity service of the Trakdot 2G device is no longer available from its primary service provider. The Trakdot device itself remains functional, it is the 2G connectivity service that is no longer available; therefore, the Trakdot device ceases to operate.Moving forward, our objective is to follow-up in the very near future with a specific course of action to, hopefully, provide you with a solution for this issue. In the meantime, we ask for your continued patience. If your device is due for renewal or you have a device yet to be activated, please hold off on doing any of these activities until we have come back to you.Thank you for understanding and the incredible support you have provided over the years.“There is 2G where I am travelling it is no longer connecting.

Useless without 2G connection
Completely useless. The tracker relies on 2G connectivity and that has been turned off. This product should have been withdrawn last SeptemberShould be a nil star rating!!

NO LONGER WORKS
DO NOT BUY. From Sept 2018 2G no longer works on it, but they still sell units.

DO NOT BUY - SCAM
This device categorically does not work. It relies on 2G Phone Service which has now been shut off in most countries, including the UK and USA, meaning this device no longer can function. They may have worked in the past but over 2017 and 2018 more and more countries have discontinued 2G service so now these devices do not work.It is disgusting that this company is still trying to sell these products when they know and fully admit they do not work. I had one purchased for me in December, you can no longer activate any devices on their website, they have shut off this functionality, and the devices no longer work. They are not responding to support e-mails.

DO NOT BUY - SERVICE BROKEN
When this product was working, it worked ok. The app wasn't the best and the service had a few flaws, but in essence it worked ok. It had improved over time, so I thought it would get better. I never actually lost my luggage, but I can imagine it being invaluable if you do.However, DO NOT buy this, because the service has been down since October 6th 2018 and there has been virtually no communication to customers and there's nothing on their website to inform people of this either. The one email that I have received says that they are trying to resolve the issue, but no further comms have come out.I only renewed my subscription on Sept 16th 2018 and I have asked for a refund, but despite sending multiple emails to different addresses, and requested a call back via their website, I have had ZERO contact in response.Avoid TrakDot, and the owning company Globatrac, like the plague. They will take your money and not care about you as a customer.26/11/18 UPDATE: Despite various attempts to contact Trakdot, and their parent company Globatrac, I have not had any response. I have since successfully claimed for a full refund via PayPal for my annual subscription.
