Review of the filter housing, which works very well
We have 'hard' water here that leaves spots, plus wife read a report about the various 'things' in the city water supply... so I bought a 'whole house' size filter to go in the water line to the hot water heater (already have a 'one faucet' filter for the cold water at the kitchen sink for drinking and the daily coffee pot). While installing this filter I learned something... the water lines I installed going to our two yard faucets are all PVC... which use glue to fit the long pieces together and screw fittings in some places... when screwing parts together I have always used Teflon tape on the threads, which works perfectly. The filter I bought has metal threads... and I found out that tape does not work well... so I dug in the bottom of my supplies and found a tube of Teflon paste... I put paste on the threads of the external fitting that connects to the water line, and on the threads inside the filter housing, and screwed the two parts together... solved the problem of the 'drip' that was working its way through the tape covered threads (my guess is the metal threads were shredding the Teflon tape) I doubt I will ever work with something that has metal threads again, but if I do I will know that tape doesn't work well.I just installed the filter, so I don't know the long term results... but the filter housing is well made, so now it is just a matter of how well the filter element works (which is not part of this purchase, the filter element is a different purchase)

Exactly what the product is labeled as
Purchase this is a direct replacement for a unit with a busted canister, was able to just unthread the old unit and rethread this back in, Perfect Replacement. The build quality seems a little better than the original one that I had comes with everything you need to install. Great 6-in filter kit.

Didn’t work as expected… Update: great customer service
*Update: Received great customer service. They reached out and apologized and thought I may have had a defective unit. They offered refund for the defective unit even though I am outside the return window.* Very disappointed in this product. Bought in February and out of return window. Gave it fair try and it did nothing. Had to go with a different system. Don’t waste your time with this.

LEAKS EVERYWHERE!!!!
The media could not be loaded. Ordered 4 of these filter housings: two in 10" length and two in 20" length. All four of them leaked AROUND the brass inserts, one of them absolutely streaming out. Used the right amount of high quality teflon tape and did not over-tighten. I have since been educated by a commercial/industrial plumber and have learned that the brass inserts in filter housings like this are MARKETING WANK and actually make the filter housing MUCH WEAKER. You should NEVER buy housings with those inserts. High-end made-in-USA filter housings such as those made by US Water Systems DO NOT use brass inserts and they never leak. All of these Chinese-made housings come from the exact same factory which is why those stupid inserts have become ubiquitous. Low-information civilians like me see the brass and think "ooo, brass is better than plastic!" so all the Chinese sellers have switched to the inserts even though they are HIGHLY prone to leaking, much more than just plain plastic threads.AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Your best bet is to buy filter housings from a domestic producer like US Water Systems, but if you just absolutely cannot afford the quality then look VERY hard for some older style Chinese filter housings that still have the plastic NPT threads instead of the brass inserts. They are getting hard to find, but they are still out there.

good to know some plumbing.
this took the same exact fit placement of the old one, therefore making it a lot easier to install, before my water softener.
