This is a example of very good research into the whole subject
This is a example of very good research into the whole subject.., with superb colour photographs etc.., and I did not realise it was the publication for a big exhibit in Glasgow a few years ago..!! 10/10 for the layout and details etc in it.., a subject very well written about...!

Good book, not many pages
For me the book ends on page 91 as there are 21 pages of appendices, image credits, bibliography and endnote. Some people like reading it, but I don't. On the positive side, it's well written and designed

Highly recommended and authoritative account of Scottish Gold
The book is attractively laid out, and as would be expected for an author of Neil Clark's standing, authoritative in its content and factual accuracy. There is much here for the enthusiast, but the text is equally accessible to the lay reader. The content is well organised, with a clear contents page, 8 chapters covering - an introduction, the nature of gold, geology, history, Scottish gold rushes, gold in ancient Scotland, and concluding with gold returns and the reformatiion and revival. Appendices include coverage of gold coinage, weights and measures, where to look, and suggestions for further reading. A comprehensive bibliography will be of use to readers wishing to delve deeper into the subject, and Neil has also provided over 350 "end notes" - interesting and informative snippets to augment the main body text.I visited the exhibition (to which the book relates) at the Hunterian Museum, in March when it opened, and this too can be highly recommended. If however you cannot get to Glasgow before the exhibition closes in June 2014, the book is the next best thing. Buy it!
