it would appear that it will be extremely useful in adding to my German vocabulary
Again, I have only had time to glance through this book, however, it would appear that it will be extremely useful in adding to my German vocabulary. I shall be using this in conjunction with German Vocabulary Builder by Harriette Lanzer.

A great study aid
I feel that this book is ideal if you are level "B1" (intermediate) or above - it contains very useful phrases with each chapter split up into topics such as holidays, economy, transport, etc.I found the sections at the end particularly useful as it does explain some interesting differences in verbs and their usage, i.e which version of 'change' you should use,for example change in just one verb in english but it German you have: ändern, verändern, wechseln, umschlagen, umsteigen depending on the sentence you are trying to construct. Choosing the correct verb is not always easy for a learner of German but this book does contain some examples to help you make the right decision and that is very useful.I also feel as though the phrases/words in this book will really help your speech/writing to flow better as you will learn words that are used as 'fillers' or just things that make you sound more authentic, it will also help you understand the words when they are spoken to you! (always good)!Really recommend this one.

Excellent, well worth-while
As I was considered to be gifted at German during my AS year, my teacher told me to buy this book as one of her upper sixth students use it and he praised it constantly, so I went ahead and bought it. I was amazed to which lengths of vocabulary it went to. It gives you phrases and great vocabulary. Personally I find the essay vocabulary and phrases are the reason I can write an essay in German almost as well as I can in English now. I have no faults in this book except sometimes the vocabulary has been put into a weird chapter but if you're learning it all for your exams you're bound to cover it anyway so it doesn't matter!

great vocab book
I bought this book to help me when writing German essays, and although I have not yet used the book fully, I can see that it is going to prove extremely helpful. I am studying level B2 this year, and this should suffice. The vocab is fairly basic throughout with some more advanced expressions, but having said that, there are a lot of new words for my level.

Brilliant book!
I purchased this book as it was recommended to me by my German teacher for my A2 course. It has vocabulary on almost every single topic in my German course. The essay style phrases are particularly helpful, as using a few of these in an essay can boost your marks.I would thoroughly recommend this book to any German student for beginners, GCSE, AS, A2 or Degree level.

Useful: Don't Be Too Frightened by "Advanced" in its Title
This Book, Fifth Edition of 2010, basically uses 2 columns: German on the left, English translation on the right.150 pages of good interesting words.Lists of words in a Topic are in the alphabetical order of the German words.Topics comprise 18 of the 19 Chapters, with a first Chapter being expressions like: "the key issue is ...", "what makes you think that?".Shaded boxes give the author's choices of what words in the Topic that he suggests to know first.Although "advanced", the German words here are the useful types of "basic" news radio words which we encounter daily: cell phone, cable television, gunman, child abuse, sex offender, secondary school, international relations, (computer) memory card, paperback book, civil rights, cruise missile, environment, halftime, jihad, income tax, interest rate, "market share", "every 10 minutes", charitable organization, debt crisis.Book is 5 inches wide, 7.8 inches tall, and a half-inch thick.Book is a fine selection of words, for even a student or tourist like me, to know for news radio types of words.

Awesome!
This book is just wonderful! When buying it, I considered improving my German from Upper-Intermediate to Advanced and I got exactly what I needed: practical words and expressions making me sound (more or less) like a native speaker. (Actually, a German whom I met shortly after completing this book said I speak like someone living in Germany for quite a long time, which was very nice to hear.)You may take a look at the pages available from 'look inside' option, they are quite representative of the whole book. If you find the words and expressions too 'smart', then better try something intended for a less advanced level but after you're done with that, get back to this one, chances are high that this time you'll feel you need it.

A good German Vocabulary boost
This is a valuable little book from the UK, aimed at Advanced German Vocabulary building. It does not seem to be much advertised in the U.S., except through Amazon, but it is well worth the inexpensive price. There is also a French version (Mot a Mot), an Italian , and a Spanish version. This type of manual does not seem to be generallly available in the U.S., as most Vocabulary manuals are really only intermediate level. But this series aims at building a vocabulary for advanced study in the target language for entrance into British Universities. I find it even more useful than the Schaum and Barron's topical vocabularies.

A fast way to learn new words
Good for learning similar German words in groups for each useful topic - a fast way to learn new words.
