A good read.
I enjoyed this book. It’s basically a tribute to his deceased father, with lots of amusing, touching and interesting anecdotes. Very well written.

A book about what it is to be human and grief and how it flows
This book is a touching, heartfelt, loving tribute to Tom's Dad who passed away in late 2021. I think it can be best described as a book about all the little things that we can often take for granted whilst someone is alive such as asking for advice on how to fix a tap or the offer of a lift to ensure that you are always safe. It's a book about the human condition and an accurate depiction of grief and how it flows, centering around the importance of family. Tom and his Dad may have been quite different people but this book examines how his Dad made Tom the man he is today.I frequently sobbed whilst reading this book but it is never overly melancholic and although the primary topic is death and grief, ultimately Tom is a comedian and and the sad parts are interspersed around genuinely funny anecdotes all told in Tom's recognisable voice. I particularly enjoyed Tom's tale of searching the garden on his hands and knees at night-time with a torch trying to remove the slugs from his garden, the garden being something that his Dad had enjoyed that the family were now partaking in as a way to feel closer to him. I identified with Tom's close relationship with his parents and the sometime perils of that relationship.Having read Tom's previous book a few years ago I definitely prefer this book, and whilst technically the timeframes of each book overlap, the content does not and I actually think I learnt more about Tom's childhood and adolescence from this book. It also features quite a few stories about Tom coming to terms with his sexuality such as when he attended a sauna for the first time.Highly recommended!

Wonderful read
Makes you laugh and cry, the final page one of the most emotional I've ever read.

A book that shows a coming of age story can come at any age!
This book isn't too much, in the words of Goldilocks, its 'just right'. Written in a convivial, personal tone that's both entertaining and touching, its dispenses sage advise on such a variety of topics as how to be ones self, manage tragedy, to growing vegetables. Reading it, I both laughed and cried, sometimes at the same time. Peering into his family dynamics its instantly recognisable and yet completely unique; by the end I wanted to just hug my dad and stand and stare fondly at my family. A feat in itself!

Love him but not the book
The content was not as interesting or humourous as his stand up show or tv shows. Disappointing.

You'll read it with Tom's voice in your head
It's a lovely autobiography and a love letter to all those who influenced him and especially his Dad who he'd recently lost, it's witty, charming and sweet - I enjoyed it hugely.

A beautiful tender book of grief, love & gratitude
I love Tom Allen & this book makes me love him all the more for sharing his grief after losing his dad, & for allowing himself to be vulnerable with us whilst still being extremely funny.
