Red Octopus (Quadio)

I had forgotten about how MUCH I love this album! Chock full of great hits from one of the biggest hit LPs of the 70s!I Love the quad/5.1 mix of this LP. The separation on my system is just...magnificent! I'm hearing instruments I never heard before. If you're on the fence about this...plunk down the $20 and get it. You WONT regret it!

It’s fun to listen to but is lacking audiophile qualities. Somewhat compressed sounding and at times the quad mix fails to excite. Actually the vinyl quad version of this sounds much better in CD4 than the digital remaster this is based on.

I'll leave the technical stuff to the audiophiles. If you're interested in the quad mix of this album it most likely means you already know it. Hearing it with a new, to me, mix is really enjoyable. And the clarity is amazing, even compared to the remaster I have. The music is what's important to me and this delivers the best version of the album I'll ever hear!

Wasnt a big fan of the Starship or this album in particular but Ive been buying a lot of Dutton Vocalion and Rhino QUAD releases along with other label releases of King Crimson and Jethro Tull MCH or QUAD titles. This one grows on you. Sounds a lot like the JA at times (duh!) in the mix of certain tracks and thats pretty cool. Mixed bag of song styles including instrumentals and country hoe downs (kinda sorta). Big sound that is totally over produced at times with strings but I can live that. Its rock-n-roll history. DTS-HD MCH mix so it's really not QUAD but taken from the QUAD mixes from the way back machine. Very cool.

What more is there to say, veiled, lacking dynamics voices not brought out front. I got burned, really surprised Rhino would pull this crap.Hope you will not buy for fidelity reasons. My vinyl from way back was so much better.
