When a tap is turned off or a ballvalve shuts, the mains back pressure can subject the pipes to erratic and very noisy surges - called water hammer. The Water Shock Arrestor absorbs the back pressure and prevents this noise.

Largely successful elimated almost all of shock when turning on tap. However considering how bad water hammer was before I am satisfied with product.
