Millennium - Season 1 [DVD]

Original and best of 3 series...
An absolute cracker of a show in its original and best incarnation. Well thought out and very adult stories building a growing and palpable sense of evil from show one to the sharp conclusion.Relentlessly downbeat, with strong subjects that also make the viewer think. I was hooked from the start with this show on its original TV release and was glad to see it make DVD.Lance Henriksen is consistently superb as Frank Black showing that he is far more than Alien bait.I rate this series the highest of the 3, as the overarching conspiracy does not interfere with the story telling. Also the Millenium group works best as hints and suggestions - never show the audience the whole monster (as per the end of series 2).Dark, pessimistic, but really great stuff from a strong team of writers.Give this show a try and then order the other series. The other two series are not as good as this, in my opinion, but it is both hard to match the quality here and they do have their own merits and it is fun to see the show go first in one different direction and then make a return to season 1 style.I just loved the episode Gehenna, think Kafka meets Faust, and this sets the tone of where things are going and what may happen at the turn of the then looming year 2000.If you like the XFiles come meet its weird cousin.

very dark
we all know the x files ,but this series is dark straight from the word go. the pilot is a shocker and you can see why the box has an 18 certificate on it.The series really is about a guy ( frank) with a kind of 6th sense who can see into the mind of a seriel killer. When the series gets a move on you get to learn the frank belongs to a criminal advisory group called the millenium group , hence the title, who specialise in solving serial killings.(you meet a few others from the group and his local cop friend) The series seems to dwell on the minds of the criminally insane and there seems to be a reference to sataniic influence behind a lot of the grisly goings on. Some of this is direct and others less obvious. There is a strong contrast to Franks personal life where you get to see what a beautiful family Frank has and that of the serial killers life. we also get to learn that he does this grisly work to keep decent people away from the monsters that are the serial killers. If you liked the x files i dont think that this will dissapoint. Like i said at the beginning it is very dark so be aware of this.i think that the 18 certificate is there for a purpose.

A novel idea from Chris Carter
This series moved into far darker territory than the X-Files, and the first series brought together a series of extremely powerful story lines. Unlike the X-Files, it focused more on the evil of the real world, which is why it hits so much harder. Lance Henriksen obviously stands out, but the quality of the acting is very good overall. Season one was a masterpiece, but was let down by the subsequent two series, which drifted away from the thought-provoking story lines and focused more and more on the Millennium group itself, which didn't quite come off. If you stick with the first series, you won't be disappointed!

Love this show, shame there’s a disc missing.
What you get for buying a dvd box set and not watching it for four months, is finding out there’s a bloody disc missing.

Finally...
I only ever saw Millennium when it was on ITV a few years back - which as everyone knows wasn't it's finest hour!!The little I actually got to see had me hooked and when the DVD set was released I had to buy it. And I wasn't disappointed. While the show is extremely dark, it grabs the attention and keeps you hooked from the very start. There are no episodes that I would call bad - which is a vast improvement on The X Files!Buy it now!!!
