Good sensor
I just got this sensor, but so far it works fine. It came with a fully charged battery, even though the product info says the batteries aren't included. It was easy to install and set up. It does not work with Alexa or any other smart home integration, and it doesn't send notifications when the device is triggered. It does keep records of the device being triggered, but I haven't figured out a way for it to result in actual notifications. It seems like it is more designed for "if/then" style commands, such as turning on a light when a door is opened. And if you want "if/then" commands to happen based off of the sensor, then the other products must be GoveeLife brand. None of that is a problem for me as that is exactly what I wanted this sensor for, and I have other Govee Life products. I bought this for my walk-in closet. I have it connected to a smart bulb so that when I open the closet door, it turns on, and it turns off when I close the door.I really like the GoveeLife app and integration. It's super easy to control all of your products with one app, and Alexa integration is a snap, as well (for products that will work with Alexa).

Perfect with gateway
can also work well in a perpendicular alignment. Dry-fit test the sensor before sticking. If you don’t have pretty good wifi & bt signal, don’t expect consistent results. So far so good after 5 days. Overall bought Govee for IFTTT compatibility to other devices in future.

Only works with Govee and only if you have a hub, can not integrate with Alexa.
For what it is, it works fine. When you open a door or window it can control GOVEE DEVICE(s) ONLY and send a notification to your phone. Also keeps a log of its use. Decent but lacks so much potential without Alexa integration. Pretty much useless in a real world application unless they do a firmware update to work with Alexa.

Product description does not include important information
I bought this product because I already had purchased a thermometer by Govee and was happy with it. It did not state that you needed a hub, but when I tried to pair the device, I could not get by the step that said it needed a distributed gateway. From what little I was able to glean from the lack of clear instructions, was that I needed another specific device to form a gateway to make the product work. I refuse to be forced to buy another product just to make this one work, so now I have an unnecessary piece of plastic I paid for and don't want to go through the hassle of returning it. I did contact customer service and got a quick response, but it was not helpful either. Last Govee device I will purchase.

This can be used with a common style of night latch.
The magnet here is 1)4" away from the sensor (and 1/4 turned from having the lines match up) and it still works. The 1/4" gap seen in the photos is necessary for the latch to move when operated. I didn't think this would work, but it does. Govee sensors require that you have at least one other device to act as a hub, so I got a 4 pack of Govee smart wall plugs. A phone and WiFi are requirements. But the great advantage of putting this sensor on this night lock is that you can check from anywhere in the house to make sure it's locked, and there are going to no "false positives" to make you think the door is secure when it really isn't. You must clean the lock surface with some strong solvent because it is sure to coated with oil. This sensor arrived with a dead battery , but the cells for it aren't expensive.

Works ok but couple of big compability issues
I am looking to add some sensors to my doors and saw Govee just came out with this new product. Took a chance on it and unfortunately went into issue immediately. The Govee products I have was not part of the "distributed gateway" products so I have to buy a Govee smart plug. So I bought one, activated the plug and it allow me to also activate the sensor right after. I tested the sensor and everything is good.Right when i am about to install the sensor to the door I was looking to automate this within Google Home. Unfortunately, the sensor can only be automated within the Govee network. What that means is you can't use the sensor to automate other smart products beside Govee items. This is a deal breaker for me as the main reason i bought the sensor is so when the door opens, the lights come on. I can only do this inside the Google Home and not within Govee network.

Unmentioned features
So one thing I didn't see in the feature list... this actually keeps a log of when the sensor is triggered. If you think your roommates/ family/ parents are going in your room or something you could use this to track when your door was opened so you can confront them about it with an exact time and date. And if you want to be less subtle about it, you can make all the LEDs in your room start flashing red, then use one of their plugs to turn on a very loud stereo configured to play Skyrim fight music and the bandit line saying "Never should have come here!" xDThe configuration system is great in the app.

Fine Product, Sub Par Software
I bought this product to detect when a door was opened and then not closed, but functionally in the Govee app this isn't possible. It can alert you to an open, or a close, but in order to know if a door has been opened for X amount of time this product falls flat. This functionality could be implemented with IFTTT for example, but it would require a monthly subscription of over 18 dollars. Considering I only need this feature for one specific use I give the item two stars. The only functionality it has in app as of 4/10/2024 is to let you know an open or closed state, but really I think to be useful, such as in my case, I need to know if a door has been opened for X amount of time before receiving a notification.IF you only need to know when a door is opened or closed, this product might be perfect for you. For me a simple software upgrade could turn this 2 into a 5.
