Windows 8.1 For Dummies Book + DVD Bundle

This is great...me being a silver surfer finds computer jargon and new programs difficult so changing to Windows 8.1 was horrendous for me. This book and video has made life so much easier as the wording is easy to understand. I don't hesitate recommending this to everyone old or young...go for it!

A great dip in and learn book that is not patronising. Written in a light hearted style that really is an essential guide to users who are new to Windows 8. I was happy with Windows and its incremental upgrades but Windows 8 offers much more than its predecessors and a useful guide, backed up by a highly watchable video guide, helps the user to maximise their ability to use the new functions and acquaint themselves with what Windows 8 has to offer.

Excellent book and DVD at a bargain price. I found this an invaluable resource when trying to come to terms with Windows 8.1. However, it does not provide all the answers as I have found out. There's no substitute for a "hands on" and work it out for yourself approach once you've got the basics down - everyone tends to find their own way around computers and come up with their own short-cuts and 'tricks'. This is a good back-up, however, and a reliable stand by to consult when you are struggling or require some reassurance that you are doing something the right way and not simply wasting your time. Well worth the money and well worth considering if you are new to Windows 8.1

This edition of Windows, and being a pensioner, is so different to any other OS that this book is a lifeline.Every aspect is explained in a one to one manner that I have had very few problems and I am working my way through and enjoying every moment.

We purchased this book after advice from a relative, who had also moved from XP to Windows 8.1, so that it was available when our new computer arrived. We are regular and reasonably competent computer users, but not experts!The book has been a valuable source of help and advice. We have not read the book through, we use it as a source of reference as needed and have found the topics easy to find and the instructions and guidance clear. We have watched some of the video, also very clear and helpful. Once we have become familiar with the areas we need to know, we shall probably scan read the remainder of the book to pick up other useful hints and tips.This book saved us a lot of time and effort in getting to grips with Windows 8.1, including finding how to shut down after our first use!

I have recently bought a new laptop and was really happy with it driving back from the shop. When I had it all connected to the internet etc I discovered windows 8.1. What a nightmare. I couldn't cope with it, it seemed so speedy and if you lightly touch a key it sends you spinning around web sites.So I have bought this pack of a book and a DVD.Fantastic, I haven't even watched the DVD yet as I have managed well with the book.Well worth the money, everything is there for you in plain easy to understand instructions.Thank you ..... In the style you expect from the Dummies series. The picture of the product is slightly deceiving though as it shows an included DVD, mine never came with one, just the book, so that's the reason for 4 stars.

Windows 8.1 is very different from Windows 7 and all previous Windows operating systems, and it takes a lot of getting used to. This book explains all the differences and new features very clearly, and makes it a lot simpler than it would otherwise be. Despite all the negative reviews, I think Windows 8.1 is very good, once you get used to it. Cant comment on the DVD as I haven't watched it yet, but the book is great and I would definitely recommend.
