Extreme detail
Extreme detail! Not for the impatient, novice, procrastinator, or attention deficient. This is the second one of these I bought my husband. The first was the "Sailing Memories" nook book. It was detailed enough but not intense for a first go at one of these. He highly enjoyed it as it came together quickly and in about a week of hour a day sessions, was finished.THIS, "Detective Agency" is extreme detail. For example, you will be binding tiny books, one by one, filling and sealing file envelopes with papers no one will ever see, building a file cabinet, drawer by drawer, building every crate then filling with posters you will cut out individually....extreme detail. If you enjoy this sort of thing- you will be in heaven...if you don't: pure hell.My husband however is enjoying every teeny tiny step of detail.Choose wisely.ADDED MATERIALS NEEDED:Puzzle glue dries clearest and best.Toothpicks to apply glue.Scissors to cut out a zillion file papers.Razor knife or exacto blade to trim wood nubs from popouts.2 AA batteries for light.

Make sure to have your own good glue and tools
Wonderful to give as a gift - whether your build it yourself to give or to build together. Pretty sturdy, took me about 8 hours total between three days to get everything ready, since most of the time was waiting for the glue to dry enough for me to grab the small pieces and put them in the right places without them coming apart. Friend LOVED the gift. Fun to build, especially when listening to a podcast. Pay careful attention to the instructions and where things go, especially the posters on the wall. Also, wooden base was a bit tricky to get aligned and in place, so be careful with that. Had to use a bit of force to get that going.

Pieces Don't Fit
This is the second book nook I have built. I thought this one was fine, but the pieces sometimes didn't fit together closely. I had to glue nearly everything together just for it to stay in place. There are a ton of detail-oriented projects within this project that I found to be pointless. For example, it had you fold long strips of paper with writing on them like book pages into accordions only for you to put it into an envelope that you'll glue shut...like 20 times. The button for the light doesn't work, so I have to lift the entire kit to turn it on by the battery box. The light strands weren't labeled, but they were all different lengths. The instructions weren't clear as to which strands you were supposed to put where, and I had to take it apart twice to fix it only to find out it was STILL not right at the end. You can see the red and black wiring through the roof easily, too. I found the pieces for this one splintered and broke way easier than the other kit I've assembled. I don't think I'll get another kit from this brand unless it's just a kit I can't live without. I wish it would've been better with the amount of time and effort I put into it.

Pieces don't fit together
this set could've been cute and fun, but the glue they give you is not enough and doesn't dry fast enough, as well as missing some of the pieces. The pieces that are there don't fit together sometimes and you can't put them together you have to file them which is super frustrating. If you can buy different glue and file the pieces it wont look bad at the end, but overall not a great set.

LOOKS GREAT WHEN LIT
Enjoyed putting it together, all pieces fit well, looks just like advertised, looks good on my bookcase. So many items to catch your eye in a small space. Very happy with purchase, my grandkids think it's cool also.

The worst
This honestly has been the absolute worst experience and all I can think as I’m putting it together is will the sweet relief of the end ever come? Parts missing terrible, quality wood, cuts do not make any sense, no cuts when it would be sturdier if they did. This is my 9th book nook and it’ll probably be my last. Thank you for ruining the fun of these

Light sensor doesn’t really work
This was super fun to make and looks adorable! My only qualm is that the sensor doesn’t really work. It’s supposed to sense movement/body heat and turn on when someone is around it - but it keeps turning itself on in the middle of the night and draining the batteries which is annoying!

Horrible
I have made several of the books nooks and this one, by far is the worst. Many of the pieces broke because the wood was not cut through, several of the notches didn't fit because the cut out was too small. The motion detection didn't work, the light stayed on all the time. The instructions were ok, but could have been better. Overall, I am not sure if I just got a dud, or if this book nook was just crap. Either way, I was so disappointed at this experience. I will make sure to not order another book nook from this manufacturer.
