Training Your Pet Rat

Essential handbook for rat fans.
We were new to the world of rats, and planned on getting 2 females. This book helped and prepared us for our exciting new adventure. Our rats are 6 months old now and we still read this for training and advice. One of my rats is more like a dog, and comes to me everytime I call her...(the other will too but only if she thinks there a treat involved.)I would recommend this book to anyone, I bought a few but this is by far the best and worth the extra spend. As someone who wasnt totally convinced on rats making good pets, they have captured my heart. These are beautiful, fun, intelligent and increadibly clean animals and the book captures these traits too. Its more of an essential handbook for rat owners.

Training your Rats
Having recenty got two pet rats I wanted to find out more about the creatures - this told me a lot of info about their habitat and how to get the best out of them. I found it a good book and one that was easy to read and understand.

Not so much training
It's okay, but best for children rather than adults as it's written in a rather bizarre, breathless and excited way - similar to how one imagines the author speaks to their pet rats rather than other humans! There is no mention of training until page 51. It's really a guide to purchasing and looking after a rat along with some training guidelines, rather than a training guide.

Great book for novice rat keepers
If you have never had a rat before (like me), this is a great book for you. If you have a low tolerance for corniness in writing, it isn't! I recommend that you read the book BEFORE you buy the cage or get the rat(s). Lots of practical advice. My impression was that the writing is also accessible for an average 10-year-old to read themself.

No actual training details given
A good book with general advice for looking after your ratties. Some good ideas in there, but does not actually inform you how to train your rats, which is the reason I bought it. Disappointed! Lovely pictures though!

Excellent introduction to keeping pat rats
This small book covers everything you need to know about getting started with these intelligent and social animals. Not a criticism but my only niggle is that being an American publication some of the foods, suppliers, etc, are almost unknown to me but UK substitutes are easy enough to figure out. This book will give you essential information before you go shopping for a cage, toys, etc.
