Upper class twit Windrush (Ian Carmichael) causes military mayhem when he joins up in the army. An inept soldier, he unwittingly becomes involved in his high-ranking uncle's (Dennis Price) scam to appropriate some rather valuable spoils of war - a haul of German jewels. A sequel followed with 'I'm Alright Jack'. Review: Daft story. - Enjoyed the film as it was black and white with some good actors in it. The story was a little weak but daft in some places, but in others it showed what some parts of army life might have been. But I still would recommend this film, good delivery service and value for money Review: Innocent Entertainment - Lots of innocent fun to be had from this 1950s farce. Lots of well-known people in it too. Most enjoyable.

Private's Progress
I bought this as a massive fan of Terry-Thomas who was absolutely sublime as usual. ,Dennis Price, Ian Carmichael and Richard Attenborough were brilliant as well. The plotting is great but look out for the right hand drive German military vehicles......whatever were they thinking of??

Excellent film
We bought this because we like Terry Thomas and he didn't disappoint. Ian Carmichael plays a very good part and the other usual suspects in Richard Attenborough, Dennis Price and Terry Thomas all play their part as well in making this a very good, inoffensive comedy.

No subtitles - boo hoo

Not as good a copy as it should have been!
A bit disappointed as the is a disappointing copy. I understand that WW2 stock film was used occasionally but, can someone tell me why this copy is so rough. First of all the sound is disappointing, the quality does make it difficult to understand sometimes, very muddy compared with other Studio Canal videos I have bought recently. I have not heard them all yet! Secondly and surprisingly ; no subtitles! The film seems to have an inordinate amount of wear causing spotting and scratch marks. It is watchable but ii will not enjoy watching it again.

I first saw this movie just after release freom the Army. I thought it was made to chronicle my experiences as so much was me!!! I had to see it three times as I laughed so much I missed the next line!!

Eine ziemlich alberne und belanglose Komödie, die aus dem Rahmen der sonstigen brillanten britischen Komödien der 50er und 60er Jahre fällt.

Le précourseur du mieux connu 'I'm all right Jack', on aurait tort d'oublier 'Private's Progress' qui a quasiment la même distribution et une intrigue très proche de 'Jack'.

Probably the best of the Boulting Brothers classics
