Great collar, medium fits (with minor mods) for a whippet
This is the best dog cone I've seen. I used a medium on my 31 pound male whippet and was able to make it small enough on the tightest velcro neck adjustment setting. If your whippet is smaller I'd advise you to use a safety pin to secure it smaller, because you need the "medium" length for the whippet's long narrow snout. The heavy nylon construction allows pinning so you can really customize the fit beyond what the velcro positions allow. The velcro positions are probably just fine for more "normal" dog proportions.I used a safety pin (instead of the velcro at the wide end) to make the cone a little narrower and with the more flexible design (compared with more ridgid cones) it didn't project out too much on the sides. As a result the dog was less likely to catch it on doorways, etc.PS - I hate cone collars but this is the most comfortable I've seen (relatively). Sometimes you just have to do what's best for the dog to heal.

DON'T LIKE THIS COLLAR
I MEASURED MY DOGS NECK AND ORDERED ACCORDING. WAY TO BIG AND VELCRO IS NOT PET FRIENDLY, VERY HEAVY FOR A SMALL DOG TO WALK AROUND WITH, COLLAR TOO LONG.

Heavy and obstructs vision
We have a 7 month old corgi with dermatitis and a traditional e-collar freaked him out so based on reviews we gave this a try. We are very disappointed, it is too heavy and puppy cannot hold his head up very well. It so obstructs his vision that he becomes very anxious on our walks because he cannot see anywhere except in front of him. Also, though this products folds back for eating which is a good feature, the collar easily rotates so the folded part ends up on top and puppy still could not drink. Still looking for a good alternative.

Nice invention, but epic fail for my dog.
This cone is very well made, and I can see how it is an improvement over the traditional hard cone. However, it did not work for my greyhound for numerous reasons: 1. A greyhound's head is smaller than its neck. Even though I attached it to her collar, she could remove it at will, by pushing it off her head. This left a potentially dangerous situation in which the cone dangled off her martingale collar. If she was home alone, she could catch it on something and strangle herself. 2. A greyhound as a very long nose, which extends beyond the end of the cone. She could lick her wound with the cone on. For these reasons, this product was an epic fail. I will keep it for my next dog, or possibly donate it to my local animal shelter.

Very effective for what I needed
My dog previously had a clear plastic cone but it was a pain for him and us, for example he got it in his water and food and when he jumped on or walked past the furniture sometimes it would catch so I got this. It prevented him from scratching a problem area, allowed him to drink and eat easily with only one incident in the beginning of him dunking it in his water dish, and he is able to snuggle up next to us without a problem. The only issue I have is it has 3 stiff bars and one that folds they can drink, well those 3 stiff bars weigh the cone down so no matter what I do they always end up turning the cone and instead of the cone going around his head it lays on his head and the cone hangs which makes it a bit of a hassle but being a soft cone it was not nearly a much of a pain as the plastic one gave him.

Worth the price!
My dog had began to lick her arm so much that it was down to bare skin. To avoid it becoming raw or a sore, we needed to cone her till it fully healed. In the past she had ripped plastic cones off so I'm glad that there was an alternative. Although more expensive than the plastic one, I would definitely recommend this to anybody who expects that their dog needs to stay coned for more than a few hours. We were able to go to work and bed without having to worry about her discomfort about the cone. She was able to lay comfortably and still drink water from her bowl. While we were home we did give her a break but for the times we couldn't keep an eye on her, we were confident that she wouldn't be able to lick but was still comfortable. To be sure the area was fully healed and didn't still itch, we kept her coned every day until the hair grew back- a little over 2 weeks!Worth the investment, especially if you know the plastic cones don't work for your dog.

horrible horrible horrible
the idea is good , it ends there .the whole process was a nightmare/ i measured my dogs neck circumfrence it is 12 . bichon fise poodle mix. the first one i ordered was due to a misunderstanding on my part as there is no sizing information. it was a large i researched and the medium sounded ok. it is a size 12-15 ,why amazon cannot provide this info is beyond me . here is another tip . when ordering this item and many like it. you have to be careful because they use a delivery method called smartpost aka dumb as a post. this system delivers to your post office. when it says delivered by saturday it means to your post office not your home not your home once it gets to the post office it then gets to you by regular mail. so allow for a few extra days. amazon will not tell you when ordering .i digress. the collar came after a week and a half . guess what, it is still to big, not by much i had to "adjust" it somewhat but it works for now. i suggest using the provided collar . also when putting this on your pet it. is easiest to stand behind him/her and bring it up under their chin that way if they back up, they back into you also they really can not see it and it is on before they realize it . good luck
