Root Candles20-Hour Scented Beeswax Blend Votive Candles, 18-Count, Bayberry

I needed two things from these candles: a good burn and a complete burn. I had previously bought some "artisanal" candles that (a) dripped all over and (b) quit burning as soon as they hit the candle stick. The bayberry tradition has always been an important part of new year's, ever since I was a kid. When I got these, I had to do a test burn. It was perfect. (See photos.) They burned evenly with no dripping, burned all the way to the bottom, and smelled great. As soon as I finish writing this review, I'm going to order more.

I've been buying Root candles for years, ever since I serendipitously discovered their flagship store and factory outlet in Medina, OH. For some while, Root seemed to be a localized operation, with almost no online presence. But the candles were very high quality, and the essential oils used in the scented ones were first-rate; so I purchased them whenever I could. They truly were "America's Best Candle."Eventually Root got with the program and began actively marketing their products online. And with frequent sales, closeouts, and seasonal specials, I bought quite a few jar candles at very reasonable prices. The large Queen Bee Candle Jars became a favorite, as they burned for many hours. So did the Large Veriglass Candles, which were nice to use on our kitchen table.Recently things have changed again -- and not in ways that I approve of. Suddenly Root seems to be selling most of their candles through Amazon -- individually, in smaller sizes, and at higher prices than before. Queen Bee Candle Jars -- particularly the large ones -- seem to be a thing of the past. I was pleased enough with the Large Veriglass Candles to order three at Christmastime; and they did not disappoint. But I don't like the higher prices; and something seems to have been lost in the shuffle. Is this somehow signified by the new, rather generic slogan: "Candles Made In America"? While I'm not yet sure about that, I am quite sure that I will be buying fewer Root candles in the future.

Growing up we always had Bayberry candles for the Christmas season. Mom would burn them on New Years Eve and lit them to ensure they would burn into New Years Day. Unfortunately these candles became harder to find in stores, especially the ones made from bees wax. Then look what I find this year! These candles were exactly what we had as a kid and I made sure to buy a pair for myself and for my daughter. They burned perfectly and smelled heavenly.Price is good and the transaction went smoothly. Candles were delivered as promised and we had them for New Years Eve.Definitely ordering more to have on hand for next year.

I bought these because of the many positive reviews. Meh. I am spoiled by the marvelous aroma of the mountain-crafted bayberry candles I can no longer travel to buy. These have a sharp, almost astringent smell. If that is "bayberry" to all these happy reviewers, it will make finding what I want difficult! I put them in the kitty-box area as air freshener. Still searching for candles close to the aroma I love and miss.

This candle doesn't actually smell like a bayberry candle. Its smells like a "yankee candle" interpretation of a bayberry candle. It is very strong smelling. I have had to wrap it in plastic. Its fine if you don't mind its strong unauthentic smell and it has a great price. They shipped it quickly. I would recommend it for people who just want a strong smelling candle. (Some people like that sort of thing.)

What is this witchery. How this happened is beyond me. Put in for a replacement. Hopefully they will be in better conditionUPDATE second set was sent out free of charge and in great condition. I didn’t have to send old ones back so just broke them down to put in my wax warmer. Hopefully these will bring gold to my pocket this year!!!

So excited to find a Hollyberry scented candle from Root. I have been unable to find one for a long time. I had one several years ago that had a most beautiful scent that was so rich & wonderful & could make your whole environment better. Indescribable! Please don’t waste your money on this. I ordered 5 of them for Christmas presents thinking I had hit the jackpot! I never give candles as gifts but the scent I thought I was ordering was too good to pass up & just knew they would be well received. I returned four & threw the 5th away since I had lit it already! $20 bucks in the dumpster.. I rate negative 10.

It’s hard to find a “ true” bayberry scent that is not over powering. This is the scent that reminds me of past Christmases. It’s a little pricey but well worth it. Most name brand candles ( Yankee Candles) are very strong and give me headaches. This one does nite.
