You know, dear reader, no human being reviews these reviews. A computer program does it. I know this. I know because I once submitted a review, as a test case, that was nothing but gibberish. It passed and went up on the site in the blink of an eye. A human being would have spotted it for what it was, but the machine didn't.So, on to Eddie Murphy's Raw.Funny to think that Amazon will sell Raw for you to watch but mention anything that is expressed in the film and your review of it gets rejected. Eddie wouldn't be allowed to write his ideas here. If you think that is a matter of protecting people, go back to paragraph one (above).'Talkin' 'bout you and me, and the games people play now.' That's a lyric from a song, and it basically sums-up Raw. Murphy has great charisma and confidence on stage. He does a series of brilliant impressions of other people, individuals or stereotypes, all of which are very funny. His observations are caustic but in all likelihood very, very true. Raw is I think a much more sophisticated set than his earlier, more infantile set, Delirious.Only three-stars? Well, one does get brought down by this, just a little too far. The endless cursing. The derogatory terms for men and women. And above all the pessimistic view of human relations, mercenary, selfish, disrespecting: it's just too bleak a perspective. It may speak most accurately to the era, but even in depressed times people need to be lifted, in fact then more than ever. Murphy's set, tremendously funny though it is, and the audience goes wild, is a bit of a downer.Also, the opening flashback is very vulgar.Very funny but also rather sad.

Well worth watching over and over

Eddie Murphy, In my humble opinion is the undisputed king of stand up, even though he only recorded 2 concerts. Delirious and Raw. His observational humour coupled with first rate impressions of anyone from Mr T to Elvis and energetic delivery make these a must watch. Be warned, they are very adult and due to the fact they are from the 80's, some of the subject matter may be considered in poor taste. If he ever decided to make a 3rd stand up DVD I would snap it up without question.

Funny

SOOO Funny.This DVD is great. Filmed way back in the 80s but still great and shows Eddie at his best, before Nutty professor and all those other really bad kids films.I would recomend this to anyone who like sstand up in general, is just as good as McIntyre and other newer comics.Has some more adult content (hense the 18 cert).Is a real bargain at a couple of quid.I hope you see this and convinces you to buy...
