didn't make any logical sense , a let down after the first book which had so much promise, for me this was just a filler to the next book which i will not now read.I would also say the references to the Catholic and Muslims was completely biased and quite offensive. (I am neither)

Vlad Dracula's life continues , violent and bloody and dangerous
Vlad Dracula is without doubt a product of his time. His hugely violent life has had to deal with the death of his father and the loss of his throne. When Vlad Tepes is described in history, he seems like an utter monster but within the story shane O'Neill tells, it's easy to see why. They were particularly blood thirsty times, that Vlad Dracula driven by revenge, hatred and intelligence in battle has to strive to regain his throne. His path to decay is helped along the way by his guardian fallen angel Lucifer, who appears to him still as Lucy. This book just finished to soon, it was unputdownable, just couldn't leave it alone, was totally engrossed from the first page and can't wait for the next book.

Brilliant Gothic Horror
The Path To Decay (Vlad Dracula, #2) (The Dracula Chronicles, #2)by Shane K.P. O'Neill is the brilliant sequel to For Whom the Bell Tolls. This dark, Gothic slice of Historical Horror squeezes every drop of blood from each gory page with extreme relish. The forces of darkness led by Lucifer continue to fight the angelic forces for the souls of the dead rotting on the battlefields of Eastern Europe. Here the reader is left in awe at the author's wonderful descriptions of bloody battle after bloody battle and Lucifer's struggle to rule man as he was destined. Lucifer has set his sights on one young man - Vlad Dracula son of the vanquished Vlad Dracul.Young Dracula forges alliance after alliance to destroy those who struck down his father. His path to decay is long and littered with the festering corpses of those who failed to abide by Dracula's wishes. The torture scenes and acts of revenge are graphic and full of exquisite horror, but so stylishly written they do not offend in the slightest. After all, justice is true and righteous if inflicted upon those who sought to use treachery as a means to gain power.Above all else, the true power of this book is the author's ability to feel for his main character Vlad Dracula and that leaps from every page so masterfully written. This FIVE STAR Historical Horror is very highly recommended.

Exquisite and Heart shattering
Having finished For Whom the Bells Toll a few days before, I was eager to get my hands on its sequel, the second prequel to The Dracula Chronicles. Having to wait several days for my copy to arrive, I wasn’t disappointed by this most recent instalment which has been excruciatingly bitter-sweet and deeply enjoyable.O’Neill has an acute ability to build up characters, and having followed the young Vlad III (now donning the name Dracula) from his birth, the readers begin to watch his decent down the ‘path to decay’ as he slowly begins to succumb to the darkness around him. O’Neill neither condones nor prosecutes Dracula for his actions, but writes with a refreshing objectivity that still somehow manages to remain very personal. The readers are placed into a realistic and violent historical setting, which is twisted by the occasional and epic interjection of horror fantasy as heaven and hell play politics on the earthly plains. From a critic’s perspective, the history continues to be immaculately well-researched and represented, the era carefully set throughout the text in a subtle and informative manner. The book itself is well paced, the sex-scenes are smouldering and the violence depicted in butt-clenching detail that will have you squirming in your seat. The characters, dialogue and relationships remain as realistic and engaging as ever, and you cannot help but be drawn in on this emotional roller-coaster of a story.Personally I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It was an even further success that its predecessor and I wait with heightened anticipation for the next volume! Praises again to Shane K.P O’Niell for another excellent novel.
