An upbeat and acerbic romantic comedy with a real edge from writer /director Amy Heckerling (Clueless). Rosie (Michelle Pfeiffer), a smart, sexy and successful single mom refuses to accept that life has passed her by just because she has turned 40. Rosie stays young at heart through the love and friendship she shares with her teenage daughter (Golden Globe Nominee Saoirse Ronan, Atonement). Then talented young actor Adam (Paul Rudd) walks into her life and straight into her heart. Finally Rosie seems to have met the right man ...though he's many years her junior...but is this just one more time she'll have to say I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN?

Watched this for free on Amazon Prime. It's quite an old film but I like Paul Rudd and he was funny as usual. I also like Michelle Pfeiffer and as usual, she was good in this film. However, I absolutely hated Tracey Ullman's character. She appears at the beginning and I nearly gave up at that point but glad I perservered. It's funny and the romance between Pfeiffer and Rudd's characters was cute. It's a predictable storyline though.A young Soaire Ronan made her debut in this film as Pfeiffer's daughter. I was really impressed with her and I loved her alternative songs to 'oops I did it again' and 'isn't it ironic'!

Wanted to like it more than I actually did
I like Michelle Pfeiffer. I like Paul Rudd. I liked Amy Heckerling's writer/director work on'Clueless', and can appreciate a cameo by Wallace Shawn. I was really rooting for this film to be one of those undiscovered gems that didn't really make it big anywhere... until it got to dvd. Sadly, that wasn't to be.There are lots of very likeable aspects to this film: the performances turned in by Michelle Pfeiffer as 40-something TV writer/producer Rosie and Paul Rudd as the (AHEM!!!) 29-year old comedy actor Adam who attracts her attention, falls for her and creates her a lot of stress in the process. The relationship between Pfeiffer and her screen daughter is also a high point.'I Could Never Be Your Woman' is both a mature and an immature film, and the actors and Heckerling clearly have fun with this interplay. But at times the audience gets left behind. I truly disliked Tracey Ullman's performance as a bitter, somewhat vengeful 'Mother Nature' and - until the end credits rolled and I realised that the film had been partially made at Pinewood - was highly confused by the influx of British comedians and actors sporting dubious 'American' accents.Arguably the worst elements of this film, however, are to be found centred around the 'comedy' show "You Go Girl" that Rosie scripts and for which Adam is up for a part. Although it's easy to see why such a show would be up for axing, it's hard to imagine even in a fictional context any good reason for a poor cousin of "Saved By the Bell" ever to have been commissioned.

Weird concoction
Weird...weird movie, feels like a mess. If it just tried to be a simple tale about a woman dating someone much younger than her then it might have worked. But the makers have decided to add weird supernatural elements to the story that don't work. And The usually reliable Paul Rudd, is so hyperactive and annoying he must have been on drugs when making this

Didn't finish this
Might have been sarcasm when Mother Nature complains about women suddenly wishing for a career instead of staying at home, I ignored that. But referencing a concentration camp when looking at a pile of naked Barbies was the climax of bad taste, switched this 'movie' off right after that.

Sorry to say mediocre predictable film - I liked the cast some of my fave people but did not add up to a great film.
