Just missing some Manhattan-based artist
Brings back great memories of the NYC I grew up in. Used to take the #1,2,3 trains between the 40’s and the 80’s. Didn’t see much coverage in the book of the artists “West” or “Risk” which would have been nice. So glad to have bought this book. Should be more coverage of street graffiti in the future (I know I’d buy)

Great Graffiti History
I bought both books. Great investments. I don't condone graffiti illegally and especially gang related but, NYC had the greatest artists of anywhere at there time. They made NYC colorful with their pieces on the trains. It was a staple to see. It was all friendly regardless of some beefs. In all, it is a historic memory of history and great knowledge to add to the brain. Great coffee books.

Graffit Lives!
Considered to be 'outlaw art', vandalism, etc...Hey, I like it...great to see someone with the conscience eye to photograph and document a "piece" of New York City/ art history. This book took me back to the 1980's. The photos are high quality...hardcover it will last longer...'just in it for the fame' it's a book about 'Graff' stories of the neighborhood displayed on a subway trains. *Boys & Girls I do not advocate vandalism* - there is a time and place for everything legal. Just search for your nearest art gallery interior or exterior. (make sure you wear an oxygen mask) Great book!

Nice companion to Subway Art.
This is a nice companion book to Subway Art. There are a TON of pics from the golden age of NYC graffiti in here and is well worth the money. My only gripe is with the spline of the book -- it seems like it's ready to tear apart at any time for some odd reason -- perhaps I got a bad copy from Amazon..

Whether or not you liked having graffiti on subway cars in the 80s
Whether or not you liked having graffiti on subway cars in the 80s, it is a large part of New York City history. This book not only provides a photographic record of an era that is now gone, but also provides a great inside perspective on the artwork. I recommend this for any true New Yorker.

this book presents a fantastic collection of images taken by the graffiti writers themselves ...
Far grittier than 'Subway Art', this book presents a fantastic collection of images taken by the graffiti writers themselves as opposed to pro photographers. Along with dozens of stories recounted by the actual artists of the time, this book really transports you back in time to the New York subway of the 70's and 80's...to the point where you can almost smell the damp and dust of their subterranean 'gallery'. I was a UK graffiti artist in my teens through the 80's, and this book has taken me back to an exciting time in my life of tagging, liberating spray paint from auto stores, trying to create the most complex wild-style pieces (to the point where they were completely unintelligible to anyone except other writers), creeping out of the house at stupid o'clock in the morning to go 'bombing', and being chased by the cops on more than a few occasions!! Although it was my burning ambition at the time I never got to go to New York back in the day to see the art on the subway trains in the mid 80's, and without a book like this it's a view of the city that is forever lost.My glasses aren't so rose tinted as to not be aware that much 'graffiti' was a eyesore on the NY transit system, but nonetheless I believe that it was an important part of the cities heritage. Forget the sanitised modern-day pseudo-graffiti artists like 'Banksy', this is the story of the real writers by the real writers...and it's wonderful. If you have any sort of interest in graffiti, or indeed New York social history, then this book is an absolute 'must have'.
