Perfectly fine perlite
This is a small bag. I appreciate the fact that the packaging is resealable. The material is a little finer than I expected, but should be ok in seedling starting mix.

Works as expected
The Perlite seems smaller and finer than what I expected but should still work.

Just what I needed
Since I live in Texas, my landscaping is comprised mainly of tough plants that can tolerate plenty of heat and sun. If I want colorful flowers, that translates to lots of lantana and succulent-type plants like portulaca and ice plant. Many of the commercial potting soils available at the store are very dense and include ingredients that hold onto water - which most of the time is a good thing, but my lantana and portulaca were dying from the soil being too soggy and not draining well enough. This Perlite is the perfect fix because it adds so much lightness and airyness to the soil. I just stirred a good amount of it into a portion of my potting soil, and repotted the lantana and other plants that were too soggy. The plants are thriving now that they have improved soil drainage and air circulation. I am also using some of the Perlite-pumped potting soil to propagate cuttings, since cuttings are more likely to successfully grow roots when they are kept lightly moist but have plenty of air circulation and good drainage.Overall I like that this Perlite is organic and natural. It looks and feels almost like little bits of styrofoam but it is a natural product that will help your soil become looser and lighter with better drainage, and it is just what the plant doctor ordered for my lantana and succulents.

Helps to make my cheap potting soil less compacted.
The bad thing is that some kind of the pearlite was crushed, powder won't do much good. The good thing most of it came intact, I'd say about 80% is ok. I usually get cheap potting soil and sort through it to get the debris and gravel out, but it is still pretty compacted when it is doused with water. By adding about a handful of this pearlite to a container I am putting my tomato seedlings in before I put them in the ground, that loosens the soil enough as to not stifle the roots. It makes it easier when I take them out of the container too. It's a bit more work, but saves me money in the long run.

A little crushed
The package is nice and sealed up. The perlite is pretty ground up but still works well for my plants. It’s not as much as I had anticipated but is priced about right. Overall if you need a little perlite, this works. Fast delivery too!

quickie perlite
Nothing out of the ordinary, it seems like regular perlite. Has the biggest pieces near the top and dust powder and smaller chunks that fall to the bottom. It's a very small amount so if you are just doing a few small pots or maybe one big pot, this would be good, but I still prefer the huge bags. It does say it's organic which is great but I don't think there is a way to physically tell. I mix this with soil to give aeration and wouldn't use it alone really unless for specific plants. The bag was light like regular perlite and the coloring seemed normal white. Sticky note pad for measuring purposes in picture.
