When you need focused laminar flow
This is the perfect fan when you need a focused column of air (laminar flow) rather than the turbulent air moving in all directions created by a typical fan. The blades are adjustable with the round dial on the top if you like to make the flow even more concentrated. Most fans make the room look cheap, but this fan has a high-end look. Here is a photo of this fan helping to circulate the air from my gas fireplace. When the fan speed is set to around 25%, it's so quiet you can't even hear it. When it's at 50% it creates a pleasant sound of moving air, which would still be ok in a quiet reading room or a bedroom. When it's at 100% it makes a real nice wind storm and creates a lot of wind noise. Most of the sound is from the rush of the air rather than from the motor, which is a sign of good design engineering. The remote control is a convenient feature. I have some air purifiers that have a similar tower design, except I never have to bother to change filters in this one. My favorite use is to create a gentle breeze and to quietly circulate the air (not so much for cooling because I already have an a/c for that, but I love to feel a gentle breeze like being outside in nature).

This is a great fan for me!
It was easy to assemble, and the base seems fine for the purpose, even though I saw a lot of negative comments about it. The speed control is great, but I only run it on 99 (Full). The noise level is high at full blast, but still less than most I have used that didn't work as well. I like the fact that the fan can be cleaned. The airflow width adjustment is nice. I recommend this product.

Here is how much power it uses
The reason I bought it and the reason I am keeping it is because of it's low energy usage. When researching this "Energy Smart" fan I could not find any information on how much energy it used or what baseline they were using for the "80% less energy" claim. There was nothing on the manufacture's site and when I got the fan, there was no information in the manual either. So I bought a watt tester. Here are the results.Off (plugged in) it draws roughly 0.5 wattsSetting 10: ~4.0 wattsSetting 20: ~5.5 wattsSetting 30: ~7.5 wattsSetting 40: ~10.5 watts**Setting 50: ~14.0 wattsSetting 60: ~19.0 wattsSetting 70: ~24.0 wattsSetting 80: ~30.0 wattsSetting 90: ~38.0 wattsSetting 99: ~46.0 watts**Side-by-side comparison with a Lasko tower fan, the Vornado seems to output the same amount of air at setting 40 drawing 10watts as the Lasko does at max drawing 45 watts. That is impressive 77% less energy usage. As far as noise. It is indeed exceptionally quiet up to about setting 30. Between 10 and 20 it's nearly silent putting out a nice gentle breeze. Between 30 and 40 it's still quieter than most other tower fans at max and putting out an equivalent amount of air. Past 50 however it is loud. It's louder than my air conditioner. But it is pushing probably 3x as much air as any other tower fan I've used.In terms of build quality this is not a $150 fan. It's put together pretty cheap and I can see it breaking with one tip on a tile floor. If you have kids this fan won't last a week. The power plug does not insert completely into the port. The remote button feels like it's about to fall off out of the box. The air veins on the front might as well be cardboard pivoting on toothpicks. The touch panel on top feel like a toy. As for the motor, time will tell. For power usage, low noise, and air flow it delivers on the promises. But for the price tag it's really poor build quality.

Just ordered my FOURTH one of these :-)
LOVE love LOVE these nice looking workhorse small towers! Have a very large open air area, where two hallways and three large rooms join, in the center of my FL home that always felt like dead air to have to walk through all day long…but after eventually adding three of these non-obtrusive, quiet circulators in different corners, they keep the whole area lifted & drier feeling on the 35-50 settings. This next one is for my large working kitchen to add to 3 ceiling fans that usually do the trick…except when that oven has to be on in the summer…I couldn’t believe the wonderful difference in the room (& my attitude) when I brought one in there to try out—allowed me to still keep the house air on 77.

Whhhaaaat!!
Ok, this fan is darn AmAzzInG.. We recently replaced the lower level windows at almost exactly the same time this Vornado was delivered. It's been hot out and we have been running the AC alot and I plugged the fan in and was completely amazed how I could be in a completely different room and actually feel a constant steady stream of cool air on my bare skin, neck, forearms, face and legs,! I was almost literally blown away!! I'm still blown away as I write this review!! I Actually thought I was just updating the review that I previously wrote,.. But apparently I was so busy working around the house that I never wrote a review in the first place. I actually put this fan directly in front of the AC register (vent) and let it work its magic spreading the cool air all around the dang house. If you want to really amplify the effect get 2 or just use a regular fan on the opposite side of the house.. I'm so impressed that I'm really considering buying another one or 2, even after my wife just about made me sleep outside for spending that much money on a fan.. And now she's on my side of this fence, and the breeze over here is fantastic. I could just about imagine that this will have the same effect when running the heat in the winter.. I'll give an update when I see what's up this winter in the mid west! Cheers

Great fan BUT...
Great Fan pushes lots of air.Have been buying for years with the occasional problem.Problems never use to be a problem because if something goes wrong,i would contact support and have a brand new fan all within a few days. I have a minor problem now with this fan and i am still waiting to see if warranty will cover this problem. It has been over a month now and STILL waiting. I purchase this brand because of the excellent and SPEEDY service. My fan also said there is a ten year warranty on it but this is of no use to me when it sits in the corner not working . I can no longer justify paying $340.00 for a fan that may get replaced if i wait long enough. Sorry Vornado you changed for the worst.
