We have the scholastic movie of Trashy Town and my 2 year old loves it! We got him the board book for his birthday and he loves it! We've read it countless times and I'm sure it will be a favorite for many years to come.

This story of a garbage man cleaning up town is a pretty basic story with a predictable ending. It does have a lot of repetitious chanting that kids can join in on which makes it a good read for a family or class read aloud. It also highlights some basic sight words which can be used to plug in some beginning readers here and there. Pretty short overall so I’d recommend this for toddler and preschool aged kiddos. The kids seem to love it so I gave it 4 stars instead of three.

This was my son’s favorite book when he was little. Now he has a son, so I wanted to buy a copy of the book for him. I was really excited to find it as a board book so he can enjoy it sooner rather than later. He can have the hardback copy later on when he’s old enough not to chew on it. The board book is exactly as it is supposed to be; the exact same story in the exact same colors. If you have a kid that likes big trucks and trash trucks in particular, and most especially the lucky folks that get to drive them to go around picking up all the trash, then this is the book to get.

このお話を知ったきっかけは、スカラスティック社のビデオ"Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!"でした。私の3歳の息子と2歳の娘が大好きで、いつもこのお話を暗唱していたし、絵がかわいいと思って購入しました。が・・・正直、かなりがっかり。文章やお話自体はリズミカルで繰り返しも多く教育的ですが、絵を見ただけではお話がわかりにくく、あまり英語に触れていないお子様やママたちにはなかなか魅力が伝わりにくいです。物がいいだけに、個人的にはすごくショックを受けました。ゴミ収集車の運転手、ギャリーさんが町中を回ってごみを回収していくお話です。ギャリーさんのおかげで町中はきれいになりましたが、後もう一つだけきれいにしなければならないものが残っています。それは・・・？？学校・公園・ピザ屋・消防署・病院などや、助動詞(In, Bihind, next to、By）などが紹介できます。が、絵を見ただけでは解らないのでとても残念に思います。私は児童英会話講師をしていますが、生徒さんに紹介するときは段ボール紙やトラックと人形を使ってデモンストレーションしながら繰り返しの部分はみんなで手をたたきながらラップ調に読んで楽しみます。英語に親しんでいる子なら3歳でも十分に理解できますが、そうでない場合は小学校低学年くらいが適当かと思います。すごく良いおもしろいお話なのですが・・・。本だけではなかなか解りにくいので・・・・。

Great story, that little kids under 2 love to read! The pages are really easy to turn so your little one can participate along the way!

Gave it to my 2 year old nephew. He loves it. He isn't into the book that much, but is having lots of fun with the truck. Well, he loves ALL trucks!
