What Are Friends For-Absolutely Killer Pedigree Axe
Ethan Hart Guitar EH-2 Trans Black Double Cutaway I received both this model (EH2) and the EH4 Shredder model as gifts. Having played for over 40 years. I enjoy a broad collection of instruments gathered over the years which includes US (BC Rich, Carvin, Parker), and Japanese (Ibanez JEM and Saber, Westone Prestige, ESP), Indonesian and Korean (Kaman, Ibanez RG, Jackson Dinky, De Armond Pilot, Ovation, Keith Brawley, Parker PDF Series) and even Chinese (Mitchell) models preferring instruments conducive to fusion, metal and heavy rock styles. This is a heavy instrument, but not really compared to early BC Rich Mockingbirds or some Gibson models. It offers a singular body design (EH2) The shipped weight came in at 22.5 Lbs. I compared it to a Westone Prestige 150 (solid mahogany neck thru) and it's right there in thickness and weight. The neck profile is easy to play and a little wider than Ibanez Wizard III neck profiles for comparison but feels about the same as the new Ibanez Premium neck which added a little girth (Ibanez RG Premium RG1070PBZ, another killer axe that's better than some more recent Prestige models). I had never heard of this designer guitar and found it accidentally but decided to take a chance after watching some You Tube videos, these are awesome premium grade instruments similar in loaded out configuration to some other factory mass produced instruments employing Graph Tech ( Yamaha, Ibanez, PRS) parts as described and as such I am a very happy player.Initial impression:First, mine arrived well packed for shipping. Unpacking revealed the instrument was encased in a hard-shell case sporting the EH logo. Opening the case revealed the instrument as pictured. After careful examination, I could not find any of the bubble flaws mentioned in the description. Second, the instrument is gorgeous in person and all the described hardware is there. The purchase price was higher at that time and still well worth it.Discoveries:The instrument played well for strumming and first position chording and minor lead work picking much like a good acoustic, but the action was a little tall for my preference overall where notation required fretting higher positions. I discovered that the truss rod was left loose at the factory. Making the necessary adjustments to apply proper tension transformed the playing experience from just OK to sublime quickly. I also dropped the bridge to the floor till there isn’t any more adjustment. Done this thing is divine. It’s great for sit down sessions.Sonic Aggression but well-mannered with Blackouts and a thick, padded supporting strap. Modern manufactures should take notes.
