Lovely guide for crafting and celebrating through the seasons.
I grew up with the older version of this book which I still like. But I am loving this new version. It is so nice to have the hand drawn colour illustrations (as well as many black and white) - especially for the seasonal table ideas etc. It is a good intro to celebrating the seasons with waldorf crafts and activities. I also love All Year Round which is from the same publisher and co-written and illustrated by the same authour which is my absolute favourite All Year Round: A Calendar of Celebrations (Festivals and The Seasons) . All Year Round has more of a spiritual orientation and goes more deeply into the meaning underneath the Christian and Celtic seasonal festivals. I love this but this is probably not for everyone. Making the Childrens Year does make references to Christian Festivals but it is less of a focus than in All Year Round and is mostly orientated around nature, craft and play. There are lots of different options for things to make - both easy and more difficult within each season. Also various patterns for waldorf dolls - both larger and dolls house size. I think this book would be a good option for parents of young children who are new to waldorf or wanting a reference book. Or for parent and baby groups wanting inspiration for soulful crafting, activities and celebrations. I am planning to give it to at least two of my friends this year.
