I ordered this to sharpen my small hatchet. I've never sharpened an ax or hatchet before. I submerged the stone for about 3-4 minutes then followed the instructions. It was easy and absolutely did the job! Now, as I go out camping, I will always have a sharp hatchet to splinter wood at the campsites. It seems durable, and well made, and it's small and portable. I highly recommend this stone.

Interesting and useful. I have 4 vs 5 stars because as you use this, dust rubs off the stone, a fair amount as the sharpening action wears the stone. And the dust is very fine, so I suggest using this outside or over a wastebasket. But it sharpens well. So it meets its purpose.

I bought a diamond coated steel plate from sharpal and had no luck at all. This on other hand sharpened every knife I have included my hatchet that now shaves my arm. It's made of corrundom which is one of the hardest stones on earth that includes sapphires and rubys in its family. Buy this stone and you'll love it for all your sharpening needs and it's only $15. Comes with nice leather case that goes right on my belt. You won't go wrong purchasing this wet stone I promise. I used circular motion to sharpen all my knives and hatchet and axe. As a quick sharpener, ok. You probably want something bigger and less unwieldy to put an edge on a new axe.
