Great micro motor tool for jewelry and lapidary use
I am very happy with my Shiyang micro motor tool so far. This unit seems to be well made. It comes with thorough and intelligible instructions. The foot control is much larger than the one on my other micro motor and I gives excellent incremental speed control. I bought this for the contra angle hand piece which gives a much more comfortable position when using dental cups to polish fire agates. The contra angle and straight tools included are interchangeable and very useful. You must remember that this is designed as a dental tool and that these nose cones are designed to be removed and sterilized. Because of this they do not contain sealed bearings and must be lubricated frequently. The manufacturer provides a lubrication tube that goes into the hand piece and works great to put the lubrication where you need it. If you buy this, be sure to purchase pana saver aerosol lubricant or other similar but less expensive lubricant. The tip on the pana saver is designed to fit snugly into the lubrication tube and the force of the aerosol forces the oil through the bushings in the handpiece. Having said all of this, I purchased my Shiyang as an Amazon “used” product for a very fair price. When it arrived it looked brand new, but the straight nose piece was seized ( obviously someone ran it without lubricating it). I sprayed some gun oil into it and it was running smooth again in minutes. You will read other reviews that complain about hand pieces that heat up and eventually seize, these are usually from people who didn’t read the instructions and didn’t lubricate their hand pieces properly. If you are considering this for jewelry work you will need to know that you can only use 2.35mm or 3/32 inch shaft bit with these and that the contra angle nose piece requires dental notched bits (see picture). This means that if own a flex shaft tool like a foredom or a Dremel type tool, most of your bits will not work with this. These micro motor tools are so much more lightweight and comfortable to use that it is well worth going out and buying new bits. If you are buying this for jewelry use I would highly recommendI buying an additional handpiece similar to the one in my second picture. This hand piece style is usually a three pin generic cord design and functions great with this Shiyang base unit. The advantage this type of handpiece is that it is not designed to be sterilized and therefore does not require daily oiling. Be sure to get one with a twist lock rather than a keyed chuck (faster to change and one less thing to misplace).I own three foredom flex shaft tools that I only use when I need a specialized bit, high torque or a hammer handpiece. My Micro motor tools are so much more comfortable and precise that they have become my go to rotary tools. The high speeds that they are capable of means that carving or engraving bits cut more precisely and don’t tend to wander. In summary, I am very happy with the Shiyang. The power base is heavier and far better build quality than another I own. The foot control is way better. You may be able to find a slightly cheaper unit but I definitely think this one is worth it. Buying an additional hand piece (like the one pictured above) to use in addition to the ones that come with the Shiyang) would give you a great micromotor set up. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven’t had a chance to run it for over an hour. If everything goes well over the next couple of weeks I will happy to upgrade it to 5 stars. I was not given free product to write this review.

It doesn't last for more than a month.
Update. It horribly overheats. It's impossible to work with it. After a few minutes working on my typodont (acrylic), it's impossible to grab the micromotor. It actually turns off automatically. So for every 4 min of work I have to wait 30 min to cool it down.I actually had to buy a new handpiece because the contra angle that comes with it just burned off. The contra angle's lock that holds the latch bur weared off, and it doesn't hold the burs anymore.A total mess, so bad my short warranty expired a few weeks after I got all my instruments and I could start using the micromotor.

Junk
This lasted for about 12 uses. Then it just stopped working. It would cost more to have it fixed than to just get a new one. But I’m not making that mistake again.
