My daughter got this as a Christmas gift for her "beach themed" room. It's really pretty, decent quality and looks nice on her floating shelf in her room. The disc portion does come off the stand entirely, for easy turning of the sand.

Have to keep turning it a bit to get it to keep the sand flowing? Tried taking a little air out and Still isn't flowing. It is beautiful but wish I didn't have to turn very few minutes. EDITED TO SAY AFTER I HAVE HAD FOR A WHILE, THE SAND STARTED FLOWING PERFECTLY! LOVE IT
