A page turner
This book communicates the history of coffee in New York City adeptly, humorously, and from a number of important but unexpected angles. Not just for coffee fanatics, I highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in the history of American food, as well anyone with an interest in NYC history.

Informative and Engaging
Had a lot of information that I didn't know and was super helpful in learning about a specific regions history in coffee. Would definitely be interested in more books like this that did deep dives into the history of coffee within a specific city and/or region.

A very complete and fascinating (who knew? ) history ...
A very complete and fascinating (who knew?) history of New York City Coffee. I wasn't sure i would be interested in all the details but the thorough research and Meister's smooth story telling qualities really make it interesting. For NewYorkers, non New Yorkers, coffee lovers and non coffee lovers alike.

Love My Coffee!
A very well-written history of coffee in NYC. The interviews, described by the author added a personal flavor to this interesting development of coffee.

A compelling journey along a rarely traveled avenue of NYC history
This delightful book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of coffee culture in the United States, in New York City lore, or both. And plenty of readers who aren't sure they're interested in either topic will be won over by Meister's engaging and informative prose. This is coffee (and Big Apple) history for the coffee aficionado and for the rest of us, for New Yorkers and for those who live elsewhere but have an interest in a niche of the city's history that hasn't previously explored to this degree.Meister is an accomplished coffee professional and journalist, but she's no snob. She's as interested in telling the story of the dollar-a-cup joe purchased from a doughnut cart on the street as she is in the four-dollar pour-over cup made with freshly ground, single-origin organic beans, and so will you be as you read her delightful book.

Good read.
Really nice written and entertaining. Nice historical characters. Not ground breaking but a nice summary of the entangled history of coffee and New York. .
