It's important to note how a shut off switch fits under the hood of your vehicle with the cables. This appears to do very well. Some comparable switches don't fit in small spaces.

This item is a must have for all collector car owners. It completely disconnects your battery from the car so you need not worry about 50 year, 60 year old or older wiring in your valuable collector car while it is unattended and in storage. You can still have a charger maintainer on the battery to keep it charged but without the battery connected to the car's wiring. No worries about short circuits while you are away.

I use it in my car, which gets driven usually only occasionally, to avoid stand-by drain by the "modern" electronics. As I live in an apartment building and keep the car in the building garage, I have no access to a power outlet to use a battery maintainer.I find the "male" end of the device to be somewhat too skinny, and with a useless conical shape. The clamp that goes on this does not hold on to it properly, and I am somewhat worried it would slip off during driving because of vibration, or when driving over a pothole.I have also noticed that cranking the engine is somewhat slower when using this, probably because of the compromised electrical contact.It works, but not great.

I am happy to say that the listing was correct. This is the preferred part by pros and is sold under other retailers in auto business. Clamp this on battery, clamp cable to it and now for anti theft, battery protection and vehicle protection during manual battery charging, your all set. A full turn in a half and battery is disconnected from vehicle. If you have a onboard trickle charger you must connect it directly to battery side of disconnect, otherwise it won't charge when disconnected. Likewise if you use a external high capacity charger connect directly to battery side of disconnect for the same reason.Preferred to install on positive terminal of battery. That is only way to totally isolate battery/charger from cars circuits

Most people don't care or don't know how to take care of their car's battery. I have four of these, two of them are on my Corvettes. If the car sits, or is going to sit for, say, more than a weekend, you need one of these on your battery. You simply unscrew the knob and the battery is no longer connected to the car. Today's car electronics (anti-theft, key fobs) slowly drain the battery and trickle chargers may or may not work. My Vettes (one convertible, one coupe) may not get driven for a month or two -depending on weather. But as soon as I screw in the switch, either one starts right up. The Optima batteries in both cars are still going strong over six years later! (2003 50th Anniversary Edition Vettes)

Cheaply built but it works

Good product materials. Electrically is not the best design, so you might have voltage drop.So the material, more like a brass, selection is great. The problem is that a little collar (underneath the green knob) on the top must send all the current through the bolt to the threads to the bottom plate. So the big contact area on the battery cables are greatly reduced (high current density) to screw threads which are small. This can cause contact melting and burnout and is a good reason if you have failure. Most likely when you start the car. crank down on the know for high pressure and the lowest resistance you can get.

Works great and easy to install. I had previously bought a different style that involved needing to drill mounting holes. This clever design eliminates drilling any holes at all..simply loosen the battery cable...install this on to the post and reattach the cable to the new post on this device. Much easier done than reading this review. Good idea to clean the posts while the cable is already off and save any future problems.
