Loudspeaker Design Cookbook
S**S
This is a classic
If you are interested in loudspeakers, be it as an amateur builder, a reviewer, or one that simply wants to understand how the various designs actually work, this book is a must.I read the 5th edition many years ago, having only half an understanding of the classic papers of R. Small about sealed and vented enclosures. This book put that understanding into context and gave me the foundation to understand the engineering principles of how to design a loudspeaker as well as why some loudspeaker designs are destined to mediocrity. This book is meant to be read multiple times. And each chapter is almost self contained, so that if you, say, are interested in vented speakers, you can focus on that chapter ignoring other types of enclosures until needed.

Very comprehensive
Borrowed older edition from the library long time ago and felt the need to have it always available. Mostly interested in the box design part but the book contains everything else as well. THE loudspeaker book to have.Could be a little better arranged, sometimes graphs and text just keeps being stacked without a sense for the overall presentation.

Authoritative
This is a VERY thorough book on loudspeakers. It coves the theory behind and adaptation of speakers. Some parts should be revised because of technology changes, ie speakers affecting CRT-televisions is largely an non-issue these days. I thorougly enjoyed it.

Looked used
Arrived looking like it had been read - some pages were folded/squashed.

For the mathematically minded
If you have the know how on constructing cabinets and a decent knowledge of applying mathematics then this book will tell you absoloutely everything you need to know. It does not however give any examples of cabinets built using the principles described and so might not be much use to some people. There are many detailed tables and diagrams along with good descriptions of how different parameters affect the performance of speakers. Finally there is a lot of discussion as to how to get the best sound from your speakers by using different cabinet shapes, damping and many other things. As I said there are no examples, no "here's one I built earlier" so it's not for everyone
