ProAm USAStand for ProAm Camera Crane / Jib

I'll just go ahead and say it: yes, it's a speaker stand. That being said, speaker stands are trusted in live venues to hold up 50-pound speakers without crushing someone. This thing is strong enough for a camera.I have an old Glidecam jib that has 3/16"-18 threads on the yoke, but no stand. I decided to get this stand since it was so cheap and appeared to have mounting hardware, and I was not disappointed! The mounting hardware is 3/16"-18 threaded, it has a locknut and a wingnut included for securing it to the jib, and the mount is made of metal (not plastic, hooray!). The mount is sort of like a pipe with an end cap welded onto it, and it just sits on top of the stand. Of course, it has a knob to tighten it into place. This means that you only have to loosen one knob to remove the jib from the stand.You can raise the stand as you would with a normal speaker stand, and it still has the safety bar included to slide into the holes as you raise it up.The stand is wide and sturdy enough that you could get away without throwing sandbags onto it in a pinch, but I don't advise that in any scenario if it can be helped.The stand doesn't really wobble, even with a ton of weight on it and a jib raised into the air.It's cheap, it's sturdy, and it comes with the hardware to make it work. Is it the industry standard? No, you're shopping on Amazon, of course it isn't. Does it work? Better than you might expect.

Ok, let's face it, you can buy a Speaker Stand at Guitar Center and it will have a little "sleeve" adaptor included. That's pretty much what this is EXCEPT if you buy a speaker stand, it's probably more expensive AND you'll have to figure out how to drill a hole in the sleeve, you'll have to figure out how to secure the sleeve onto the stand so it doesn't twist and turn when you rotate your Jib. You'll spend an hour at Lowes, an hour messing around drilling the hole, and then you'll forget that you need to go buy a couple washers, a lock nut, and a thumb nut. So you'll spend another hour going to Lowes again. Hopefully this time you'll remember some grease so the whole thing rotates smoothly.So, just buy this. It's a good product and the people are great to work with. The stand itself is very sturdy, and it took me 3 minutes from the time I opened the box until I had my Jib on the stand and playing around with it.The next day, I took it to a wedding and it worked perfectly, even on soft dirt/grass, and even on uneven terrain.

The ProAm Camera Crane Stand is designed to work with the DVC 200 and 250 series video camera cranes. When the crane is ordered with the stand the crane comes with the proper fitting that lets it be easily mounted to the stand. I was impressed with the stands light weight and even more so with its stability. The stand can be raised if needed and features a locking pin that is permanently connected to the stand. I've used the stand with the crane inside and outside and have found it does a nice job. The stand is lighter than a tripod but sturdy enough to safely operate the crane attachment. If purchasing the crane I think most would find the stand to be a wise investment. I purchased this item with the ProAm DVC 200 8 foot crane on Amazon and was delighted that it included free shipping as well a better price!

Instead of looking for a sturdy enough tripod to attach your jib on, I highly recommend getting this stand. I have the ProAm mini jib and I must say this stand holds up great. however it can get really heavy at times, I'm not exactly sure what the weight limit is, and I haven't had a chance to use the full size jib, so I can't give it a full 5 stars. Still a great stand!!!!!! It feels like it will hold most any jib you can attach to it.

I'm using this jib stand to support a jib that was made for use on conventional tripods, and does not come with the option to place on a stand like this. Not ready to plunk down 3 or 400 bucks on a good tripod just yet, I opted for the ProAm jib stand, which is rated for up to a hundred pounds. It works great, but I do wish ProAm had put a large diameter tightening knob on the mounting cup that goes over the mast. I think that small knob may have been a change to reduce the likelyhood of counterbalance weights striking the bigger knobs. It does take a vice to tighten though.I do have two other jibs by ProAm, and I'm using the same stands for them with no problems.I was able to integrate a heavy duty fluid tripod head to this jib stand with nearly no problems, other than needing a good bit of strength to tighten the bolt into the fluid head enough to stop the head's lower plate from rotating with the jib when pivoting the jib.I think the right conventional tripod would be more rigid, but as I mentioned, I just don't have the scratch for a nice heavy duty tripod. This is a good alternative.
