Marius' Mules XV: The Ides of March

A marvelous yarn carefully intertwined with historical fact.
This was a terrific series of reading from book one through fifteen. I enjoyed them all.And I enjoyed also enjoyed the interesting historical analyses at the end of each book. These allowed me to see a new and original perspective on the fall of the Roman Republic and how much original thinking had to have gone into each part, just to make sense of the history. So, well done Simon!

Fronto is dead!
We see the last of Fronto is another magnificently written story. This book is worthy of all the books that came before it. I say goodbye to an old friend who has given me many hours of enjoyable entertainment, history, and time travel. But I will not say goodbye to the author. Well done Simon!

Decent end to the series
Typical Fronto. Bullheaded. Loyal. Fierce. And a tyrannicide as it turns out. A bit short on action but a decent end to the series.

fitting end to a great series
It has been a great pleasure to follow Fronto in the 15 books in this series. This book closes the series in an excellent fashion. Read the series in order and you will greatly enjoy them all.

Too bad it is the last book of the series.
I read all 14 books twice. Enjoyed the journey with Fronto across the Roman expansion of the Republic. I liked the characters on both sides. Each new book was better than the previous one. The final one was entertaining even though the ending had to be predictable to a point. But you pulled it off. My wish is for a final book to usher in the beginnings of the Roman Empire.

Caesar ave
What a great yarn! This series of books is well researched and supremely illuminates all the pertinent characters around Caesar . I’m sure it’s not a giveaway ,as Fronton always is steadfast, blunt but loyal ,and is there on the Ides . Mr Turney weaves a compelling storyline that ties up what is a cultural volcano that ultimately when all the as lands changes western society.

Great Redition!
This is the 15th and last book in this series. It took a while, after I finished the to finally be able to order 15. I was especially anxious because it would contain the assassination of Caesar. Well I didn’t have to worry. It was handled well and I was satisfied! Thank you!

Get a decent editor!
I read and enjoyed all the books in this series. However, the Kindle edition of book 15 in places read like a rough first draft and had clearly not been edited properly, or if it had, it was by the usual blind and dyslexic editor most authors for some reason seem to be using these days.

Terrific Ending to the Marius Mules Series
I enjoyed all 15 chapters of the Marius Mules. The conclusion was quite different from the prervious 14 but concluded the series in a very good way, tieing all the adventures to a logical conclusion. Political intrigue and political violence made the last chapter very interesting. Great series and highly recommended!

Murder of Caesar
A historic novel is free to add fantasy to weave between the known facts. Adding a new killer to the plot ending the life of Caesar takes it one step too far for me. The characters of Antonius and in particular Octavian are inconsistent with what is known about them. However, as a historic fantasy it is good reading.
