excellent loft access for limited space lofts
the product was a must for me with a loft access limited to the hatch area and less than a 1Metre clearance above the hatch. The unit is heavy to handle and will need 2 people to fit unless a suitable clamp is used. I have taken the precaution of a first fix of 5 x 80mm (No8) screws to get the facia plate in postion in the loft access frame (added strenghth to the frame with 70 x 100mm beam). Then for a second and final fix removed each screw individualy and drilled through with size 10 bit to cut through facia and support beam to give a hole for inserting a 140mm (size 10) bolt, with washers, spring washers and nut to give a tight and substantially strong fix - all the other screws replaced by bolts in the same way. The ladder/steps expand to a length greater than I need for the 8 foot drop needed so a quick fix of unbolting a step and refixing in the correct configuration was straightforward. The altered steps' length is now ideal for the best angle for the unit to line up to the loft access and have the quite deep treads level for ease of use.The access trapdoor has been replaced with and MDF 9mm board nut I would recommend that a 12mm or maybe 18mm board is used if space allows to avoid any bowing in the trapdoor which is now suspended either end rather that sitting on the old rectangular frame. There may also be a need for insulation so allow space on the underside of the trapdoor for insulation - refelctive sheets - if you can. Also, allow for the couterbalanced uit of closed steps to be brought down to a vertical position without it whacking into the trapdoor or breakage will occur - I know!I used spacers that are normally used on door frame fittings but easy to get hold of or any thick plastic spacer that is approx 5 mm depth and a size that can be screwqed to the facia borad where the steps and its frame collide. The spacers will cushion the blow and should stop the trapdoor being knocked off its hinges or even worse.Overall, after the work is done I am very pleased and the additional work to make the fixings robust is worth the effort. The product has been used many times during a refitting of the loft flooring and insulation with the combination of a firm fix to the loft beams and extra deep tread being (a) compact and convenient (b) comfortable to use and (c) gives confidence to the users that it is a safe access compared to an alternative of free-standing ladders.

Great purchase! Highly recommend !
These are wonderful! Very sturdy, they are super easy to install and don’t take up any space at all! They have perfect grip on the steps and the steps are large enough for a comfortable step, I would highly recommend these forLofts/Attic

Excellent but care needed with fitting.
Well made, works well & instructions are clearly written in real English. Two words of warning, though - don't try fitting it on your own! I did & eventually succeeded but only after hours of struggle & much foul language. With one person in the loft & one below it would have been easy. Also, if you are securing the board with bolts, make sure they will not interfere with the mechanism - I didn't & that caused more foul language.

Good, But.....
I was hovering between giving three or four stars on this item as while this is a well made quality product, I do have some reservations having now installed and used it.My concern is for the integrity of the structure when it is opened out. Each pivot point has to be a weak spot and and there are a lot of them. In use, it does flex and creak quite a bit so it worries me that if one of these fails, then the whole lot will collapse. Not a pleasant thought.Taking that aside, the ladder is easy to install (as long as you have the modern oblong shaped loft hatch, not the old fashioned small square hole in the ceiling) but although I managed on my own, it really is a two person job. Deploying it is simple and storing it is equally easy BUT it is heavy and has to be lifted free of its retaining horns to deploy so not something for somebody who is lacking reasonable upper body strength. In the closed position it takes up absolutely no space in the loft floor area as it is wholly housed within the void behind the loft hatch. If you have the space to install a normal sliding ladder, I would say do so but if like me you have limited space then this ladder does the job. Just hope that all those joints hold together!

Not For Modern Roof Trusses
Not suitable for my hatch, and I was not confident with the securing to modern roof trusses had to return the item which cost about £12 to return. I purchased the ladder after seeing it displayed at a home show and the salesman saying it would fit to any space. It would be a great loft ladder but you do need a big beam to fit it to securely.
