A cheap solution for ATS needs
The media could not be loaded. I purchased this ATS to automatically change my refrigerator from solar power to the grid if my solar power runs out. The first unit I received had a crack in one of the pivot points on the side of the unit which could easily cause the unit to fail, fortunately, I noticed the damage before installing it. Amazon was quick to replace it.I set up the new unit with solar being primary power and installed a fridge protector to save the compressor on my fridge from suddenly being powered by an out-of-sync sine wave which works fine changing from primary to backup power on the ATS, however it seems the unit has additional slack while turning from backup to primary as the timing in the loss of power does not trip the fridge protector, even though the turning rate of the knob is the same. However I did test to see if the two outputs were ever connected and they were not.But overall the unit is doing its job. I just have a bit of concern about the build of this unit.

Handy ATS for a handyman
The media could not be loaded. I maintain a server rack at my office and it has two UPS for backup power. Since we have 3-phase commercial power I can put them on separate phases. However a few times a year there will a wreck or some other accident that will oddly damage only a single phase. Two-thirds of the office will still have power but the rest on the phase that failed is in blacked out.I used two of these ATS so that both UPS will still have power even if there's only one phase still in operation and they been working well for the past two years. As shown in the video we unplug "Main A" and then "Main B" and the ATS switch to the "Backup" as needed.Of note in my application and probably most other people's, I have the output sides of Normal and Backup tied together so that my output plugs will have power when it switches. They are not tied together by the manufacturer. There's no worry of both being on at the same time though unless the unit is damaged somehow. So it's probably a good idea to double-check your unit with a multi-meter before putting a real load on it.The switching time is about 0.5 seconds but not short enough to keep most electronics without a battery powered.DISCLAIMER: DO NOT DO THIS if you are at all unsure about what your are doing or about how it works.FYI, these unit's use a 110VAC motor to switch sources automatically. If there is a brownout or voltage sag situation it may not switch properly to the other circuit. The happened once for me and I had to manually switch the circuit. It's hardly a CON as these units are simply designed to be switches and not breakers or power conditioners. Use breakers or fuses on the input side and even on the output side if your not sure if your load has integrated breaker/fuses.

The Manual LOL
I mounted it up a week or so ago. When I went to wire it up I could not get it to auto change. I contacted the vendor and they sent a diagram the next day. But it was of the 2 pole and I have the 4 pole. So they apologized and found the correct diagram. But my question was still not answered. As I was going to leave one line empty, I wanted to know which activated the switch. I tried trial and error, but hard where it was mounted. So I took it out and took a close look and saw solder joints on the "N" and "1" connections. I was missing it because I was using 3 in a row instead of skipping one. So there was my answer. I have only tested it a few times and it seems to work. So I can not speak to longevity. It is bigger than I envisioned, so plan for that. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars, product seems fine and I should have looked first. Customer service while quick was not very thorough.

Alternate power switch
I got this device to switch between power sources for my propane furnace. The main power line is the hard wire from the breaker box and the alternate power is from a heavy duty extension cord to a generator. For this purpose it works very well. Be aware the "instructions" that come with it are incomprehensible but the wiring diagram shown on the Amazon page is correct.

The switch works but is very slow!
I installed this switch in my trailer. I was switching from a modified sine wave to a pure inverter along with lifepo4 batteries. My other inverter had a pass through and instant transfer of power from batteries to generator. I never noticed the switch over and the TV never so much as glitched. My new Inverter does not have a pass through and this is where this switch comes into play. This transfer switch was easy to install. It is bigger than I thought it would be. This wasn't a problem because it fit in the space I needed it. My main problem IS the speed of this switch! It is slow!!!!! I can't be watching a movie off battery power with the family when I start the generator to charge the batteries. The TV and the DVD player shut off because the switching is far from instantaneous. This is very annoying to get the movie started back up. I would not recommend this for a trailer if you boondock regularly. (I would recommend an all in 1 inverter - charger, way less wiring and big space savings unlike my pic) This does have a place for houses during power outages though. This is where I will be moving it with a plug in for a generator. This switch does work just fine but it is not an acceptable switching speed for my application. Now I'm back looking for another switch for my needs.

Does what it is meant to do
Works perfectly. Switch over time is less than one second. The computer does not like such an interruption I use a separate UPS for computer but the pellet stove does not mind a one second off. Many complaints about instructions. Instructions are not included. What is included is description of product. If you need instructions go to YouTube. Be careful one presenter has inputs reversed.
