"Get Real" With a New LIfe Code
Do you give other people the "benefit of the doubt"? Dr. Phil believes you can get in trouble just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time and not listening to your basic instincts. This is why the "benefit of the doubt" is not advised in the new "life code".Dr. Phil McGraw states that some people "win" just because they play the game of life according to a different set of rules or no rules at all. In the real world, the cheaters sometimes win, the early bird doesn't always get the worm, and doing unto others as you wish they would do unto you doesn't always get you what you want, need or deserve.BAITERS (Backstabbers/Abusers/Impostors/Takers/Exploiters/Reckless) are those who exploit, cheat and abuse other people. They win at any cost, especially if it is at the expense of others. Dr. Phil explains the tactics, strategies, techniques and behaviors that BAITERS use to hurt you.The second part of this book explains how to be a winner in life. In order to be successful, you have to play smarter and harder in every part of your life. That means changing what you are doing and how you think. Dr. Phil created a "Sweet 16" list of strategies, mindsets and behaviors that he believes are necessary to change your life for the better. The final part of the book deals with the importance of knowing how to negotiate what you want and need. Almost everything in your life is based on negotiation.Dr. Phil writes a special chapter to parents at the end of the book. He believes that people who want to harm your children have more access to them than ever before. Parents must teach their children the new rules for dealing with people in their world. The world has drastically changed in the past 50 years. I believe Dr. Phil delivers some sound and sensible advice on how to live in modern times.I wish I had read a book like this many years ago. I have been exposed to many BAITERS in my life. Unfortunately, I have also used some of the tactics that BAITERS use to further my own agendas and causes. This book should motivate you to take a good look at how you are living your life. It is never too late to make positive changes in your choices, behaviors and relationships.I read the digital edition of this book on my Kindle Fire. The formatting is a bit rough around the edges, but the content is really outstanding. I think this is the best book that Dr. Phil has written. It is time to "get real" with a new life code!

Interesting as a starter for learning more
If someone is looking for a primer about how to start to reframe their thinking, beliefs, attitudes, etc this is a great book to start with - simple, direct, & clear.I'm a quiet fan of Dr Phil & I've read a few of his books. This book is, in many ways, a sort of summing up of some of his other books. Making explicit some things that might have been implicit in other books, though on the few occassions that I've seen his TV show he is usually pretty clear about what he is saying. One concern that I have with the book is that portrayal of life as a battle, a struggle, a conflict - with life's sweetness kind of being ignored. Perhaps, this is because he is an American & the book seems to be aimed squarely at Americans, despite his global audience. As Deborah Tannen has pointed out in her book The Argument Culture: Stopping America's War of Words this notion of constant war seems to be built into the cultural voice; & words define our reality. As to content, it is a good introduction to concepts that people often overlook as a result of their upbringing, need to fit in, tendency to treat employer's as substitute parents, absorption of hollywood myths, etc.If you're looking for further reading, there are quite a few other books that might be of interest:Carl Alasko's books with a word in the title that leads Amazon to reject reviews that reference it...Albert Bernstein's Emotional Vampires: Dealing with People Who Drain You Dry, Revised and Expanded 2nd Edition Sandra Brown's How to Spot a Dangerous Man Before You Get Involved Kelly Bryson's Don't Be Nice, Be Real: Balancing Passion for Self with Compassion for Others Pat Cravens Freedom Programme books Living with the Dominator , The Freedom Programme Home Study Course:: A Supplement for the book "Living with the Dominator" Beverly Engel's books, for example The Emotionally Abusive Relationship: How to Stop Being Abused and How to Stop Abusing Lundy Bancroft's Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men Patricia Evans books, for example The Verbally Abusive Relationship: How to recognize it and how to respond Karol Truman's Feelings Buried Alive Never Die Amazon has a 10 book limit on links, so I'll simply mention these ones:Dan Kiley's The Peter Pan Syndrome: Men Who Have Never Grown Up & The Wendy Dilemma: When Women Stop Mothering Their MenAnne Katherine's books about boundaries Boundaries Where You End And I Begin: How To Recognize And Set Healthy BoundariesCharles Whitfield's books about boundaries Boundaries and Relationships: Knowing, Protecting and Enjoying the SelfCordelia Fine's great book Delusions of Gender: How Our Minds, Society, and Neurosexism Create Difference& finally Steve Biddulph's books on parenting, though it might be useful to start with some of his writings on adulthood, such as The New Manhood which is, despite the title, in many ways kind of gender neutral.

Excellent advice with simple language
I first read the 20/20 diet book and so far have lost 20 lbs. Dr, Phil made mention in that book of Life Code. I really enjoy the way Dr. Phil conveys information. I found the book to be insightful and beneficial to things that were presently affecting my life. At first I saw everyone in my life as he referred to them as BAITERS but then further in the book I was better able to put things in perspective. It is a good read and I recommend it.

A must read
Excellent book. I have read a lot of psychology books over many years, this book draws so much together offering a lot of good advice in a short amount of time. Best book in its category, written from the perspective of someone who is on your side; the father saying it how it is and how to take care. A must read.
