HohnerMarine Band in Bb, 1896BX-Bf

This is the working man's harp - the one just about everyone you know who plays harmonica plays. It's the harp of choice for Adam Gussow and that's good enough for me.For those wondering what the difference is between this and the Marine Band Deluxe, I'd say it's about comfort. I have a Deluxe in the key of C, it was the first harp I bought. The Deluxe feels a little smoother on the lips, with its triple lacquer, and the edges of the comb are rounded a little. But there's something super authentic about the 1896 that I think I'm gonna fall in love with. In my humble (beginner's) opinion, the difference in response is barely noticeable - both are super airtight. Any difference there is could be to do with the different keys, as lower keys (I think) have a slightly more sluggish response time.All in all, this is a great, great harp and while the Deluxe will give you those added improvements for £10 - £15 extra, you're going to get the real deal with the 1896. I'm sure I'll try some of the other models in the series on down the line - the Crossover in particular appeals with its bamboo comb - but I've a feeling this one is going to be my staple.Keep harpin'!

I have a range of Hohner harmonicas and i love them all.They all produce great sound and had good build quality.

These are the best harmonicas you can buy. Don't be swayed by more expensive nonsense, these are played by Bob Dylan. Enough said!

Its a Hohner Marine Band what else can be said. If you want what you hear on those 30's to 60's recordings then you have to buy this harp.

This particular harmonica didnt last very long at all.After about 2 plays the comb was swollen to unusable (occasionally I use tongue blocking).Now I go for Special 20s or Blues Harps.

It does exactly what it is supposed to do. I got it for a reasonable price - £21.56. Perhaps it could have been cheaper.
