Value for money
I have a knee problem so I wanted personal cd player so I could listen to my music without keep getting up to use my usual cd player. Although not the most expensive it's a really nice little item. The bonus is registering the item online it is covered for 3 years. Sweet

Beware battery choice
Nice little player with all the usual CD functions, however the controls buttons are hard to see (easily memorised) and the instructions say it requires 2 X AAA batteries where the box says 2 X AA batteries. It requires 2 X AA batteries.

Good value
As a backup personal cd player it was value for money. The rather poorly marked control buttons took some getting used to. Sound quality reasonable for the price.

Why not take it for a spin?
I have recently rediscovered the pleasures of audio books. I went to retrieve my trusty hitachi personal cd player from the loft only to discover it no longer worked! I was going to have to buy a new one……….Looking at the players on Amazon and other sites it’s very obvious that the glory days of personal CD players have long gone. I remember when the shops were full of shiny models from the likes of Sony and Panasonic (or “National Panasonic” as we oldies refer to it). These days you take what you can get. Some of the models on offer clearly are of very poor build quality. In the end I went for the AKAI “Classic CD Walkman.”Taking it out of the box I was struck by how light it was. Think “egg box” light. Not much metal here!Having said that, the build quality seemed reassuringly good. So far it has worked well. The machine is not without its limitations. The round LCD screen is tiny (smaller than a pound coin) making it difficult to read). In a similar manner, the buttons are tiny and made of black plastic with embossed symbols in black. Even in bright light it is hard to see what the symbols are, You soon get used to what the buttons do however. There are a couple of functions that I would have loved the machine to have. One is mp3 playback as a number of my audiobooks use this format. The second desirable function is "RESUME MODE.” Basically the machine remembers where you are in your book and returns to this position when turned off. You can’t have everything I suppose! The player doesn’t go particularly loud. The maximum volume will obviously depend on your choice of headphones. If you have a fondness for “thrash metal” this may not be the machine for you.In summary - A reasonably well made basic machine that offers good value with a three year warranty.

Akai has deteriorated
This item was poorly made and does not play properly after only five months, Very disappointed. I have asked for a refund under guarantee but have not received a reply from the seller after answering their enquiry as to what is wrong with it. I hopw Amazon will intervene.

Easy to use
I use the product at night time to listen to relaxing cd’s to help me sleep. It’s always by my bedside. I know people have Apps on phones but that’s not for me. I like “ old “ tech.
