You can play for hours. Great for parties. Putting down bets for who closes or ends up with the lowest number wins. Ties re-anti. Good times.

I have wanted to pick up a Shut the Box game for some time as it looked fun and would be a nice quick game to play with my kids. Plus there is some math involved which is always good to have them work on. This set is all built into a wood box with the numbers all mounted together on what I am guessing is a rod to allow them to stay at the same location and provide easing flipping to mark which numbers are used during game play. The overall game is fun and depending on house rules can be quick. This is a 12 number version so that does make it more challenging to "shut the box" fully but does not take away from the fun.Build quality is on the cheap side. You are getting what you pay for here as the wood is on the cheaper side and components don't feel premium. The box is held together fine enough but some of the inside parts are just not put together as nice as they could be. Gaps in side moldings and little things like that. The numbers are also a bit floppy. It seems they are all on a rather small size rod and there is no supports so in the middle numbers there is a little play in the rod. I do worry it will eventually snap but with care it should stay fine but this could be a concern down the road. The numbering is printed nice and cleanly so that is a plus side.Are there nicer Shut the Box sets? Sure but I would not look past this if you just want a version so you can play and don't want to spend gobs of money to do so.

The font for the numbers is odd, but the numbers are legible so that’s really just a personal preference. The biggest problem I have with this game is how light the wood is. It almost feels like driftwood. The problem with that is that the numbers have to be lowered and raised as part of the game and because the wood is so light, the game itself is very fragile because of this I am concerned for the long term durability of this game. So far our four and seven-year-old have played with this, and nothing is broken so it could be fine but it is a concern I have. This is one of the lower quality executions of this game I have seen this game is usually made of wood in the first place so it being a wooden game is just the nature of it as opposed to an upgrade and again the wood it is made with is a little lower quality than the other games I’ve seen, so I would just consider this OK or average.

This is a great game once you learn how to play it. The cardboard box it comes in is beautifully decorated but the wooden box is very plain with no engraving or writing on it other than the numbers on the tiles. The box is very well built. The felt is tightly attached to the bottom, the hinges are tight and work smoothly, and the latch locks nicely. The numbers are large and very clear and easy to read. It comes with 4 dice and an instruction booklet. The included instructions are very vague. I would recommend watching a youtube video to see how to play. As you can see, the instructions don't really say how many dice to use other than "the player throws a 5 and 6" so that specifies 2 dice but then it doesn't clearly say how to close the 10 - 12 numbers. The youtube video clearly stated all the rules and really excited me about playing this game. You can set your own rules and use all forms of math.... addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division ....or just one form of math for that particular game. It's your game, your rules. I can't wait to play this game at our next family gathering. I would recommend this product. It would make a great gift.
