Awful Movie
What a waste of talent and opportunity (and money). I watched it only because of John Cusack, but what could have been a great and interesting story was given an amateurish treatment, loads of the usual stupid 1970s jokes from Jackie Chan with his signature jumping around like a monkey was just absolutely awful. A meeting between the armies of 2 great empires could have been a really interesting story, instead the whole thing was spoiled by a bad and predictable script.

Where do I start....
I don't normally write reviews, but felt compelled to after watching this.Script: Appalling.Acting: Appalling.Continuity: Non-existent.Cinematography: AverageSound score: AverageOne of the main reasons this film is so bad is that Adrian Brody is not, and never will be, an action hero or bad guy. He just does not have the presence for it. If they'd switched roles with John Cusack it would have been better, but then, the casting is poor all through (A Parthian queen with a strong American accent....come on...surely you can do better)After that the films appalling lack of continuity comes into play. At times you are wondering what the hell just happened and what is going on. The story is fractured beyond belief. Then you lose interest.SPOILER ALERTWhen the child died it was actually a relief. The constant whiny crying was beyond bearable, as was the poor acting. And the ending....well, that was so predictable even a blind dog could have seen it coming.I really don't know what Jackie Chan was doing in this. He's done some poorly produced films, but this one is at the bottom of the pile.My advice: Find something else to do with your 2 hours.

Far better than expected
I watched this DVD with little expectation after reading all the poor reviews and yet it proved thoroughly enjoyable! So much so that I wonder if the "poor" reviewers had actually bothered to really watch it? Jackie Chan came across as a far more restrained and better actor here than in his usual type of movie, whilst both John Cusack and Adrian Brody did a brilliant job in being truly believable and authentic in their respective roles. The costumes and props were outstanding, and the story line offers a valuable lesson for our own age. All in all, very well done!

Visually extraordinary
Yes, the story-line is a bit 'done' but this is a visually epic film with huge lines of soldiers and resources in typically Eastern (Chinese) splendour. Jackie Chan and John Cussack make a watchable mix and the fight scenes are clever and interesting. This is worth watching - not for the story, which works although it is a hackneyed theme - but for the richness of visual entertainment and tactical fighting wizardry.

Below par Swords and Armour drama
This movie attempts to bring the Roman Empire to battle with parts of what become China . As far as one can tell, it picks up on bits of history from different time frames and mixes them together.Essentially, this is built on the perceived commercial strengths of Jackie Chan. So, Roman Generals become the top swordsmen of their armies, fighting one on one with the opposing General. I suppose they are entitled to take this rout as this is what audiences expect from movies from this eraSadly, very little is credible

Disappointing and horribly unconvincing
I am a fan of the three lead actors, but this film was really disappointing. Jackie Chan was the only male actor that played a convincing role - the choice of the others was baffling and unconvincing. Some great female actors, but with fairly marginal roles. For me it wasn't well directed, the pieces did not fit together, and the acting was mostly awful. I watched it almost to the end as an act of endurance, but as soon as the goofy singing started I called an end. From a historical perspective it was even more disappointing - the Romans were famed for being organised and disciplined fighters, whereas in this they were all spectacular martial artists - it could have been made much better by focussing on the contrasts between the soldiers rather than making them similar. It could have been so much better.

Stick to cheesy under 14 Hollywood slapstick comedy movies Jackie!
It's based somewhat on a true story, and I liked the costumes. But it should have been styled like other epic Wuxia genre movies; without Jackie in it.Jackie's martial art fight scenes are more akin to the 70's cartoon character Hong Kong Phooey.Great family film to watch together if children are under 13 years old.Jackie should stick to what he's good at... ....cheesy under 13 Hollywood slapstick comedy movies.
