Can you use the original hopper lid in place of the bellows? I want the single dose hopper without the added height of the bellows

The set comes with 2 covers, a black metal one and a clear plastic one. The bellows easily comes off if you don't wish to use it. My only concern is the amount of residual coffee grind that will build up without using the bellows. Without the bellows, the black lid is well-made and substantial in weight.
