There are some really cheap, flimsy game sets out there, whose only selling point seems to be their compact size. (Some, in fact, are downright microscopic.) Some sets seem as though merely breathing on them is going to harm them in some way. Not this set. A 6 by 12 inch board folds out to 1 foot square: not the MOST compact, but also not so small that you won't enjoy playing on it. The board itself is sturdy, which is a must, and the pieces are made well, look attractive, feel good in the hand, and can be moved around without any difficulty. (My one complaint: the dice COULD be a bit larger, but dice are so cheap that if that's an issue for you, just throw your own dice in there for backgammon and problem solved.)If space is at an absolute premium for you, then you may need to find something a bit smaller. However, if you can afford the bit of extra space this board requires, then it's very much worth having. It looks great, it's not so small that it's awkward to use, and, of course, who can go wrong with three fantastic games in one? The magnetic board helps keep the pieces in place, but it's not a terribly strong magnetic force, so if you're going to play in the backseat of a moving car, still hope for a smooth ride. This is the best travel set I've seen yet for taking such excellent games on the go, and, to be honest, if your budget requires a travel set to be your primary at-home set, too, this is still a very decent way to accommodate that.

I’ve been enjoying playing chess with this board game. The overall quality is decent—the board is sturdy and the pieces are durable. However, the pieces are quite small, which makes them easy to lose or knock over during play. This can be a bit frustrating at times, though the game itself is still enjoyable. If you prefer larger chess pieces, you might want to consider that before purchasing.

Love playing checkers in bed and pieces are magnet so they do not fall out of place. Nice case and pieces are solid.

This is a very cool chess board to have. The magnetic feature is a very nice touch. It’s strong enough that the pieces will lock into place, but not too strong that it makes it difficult to pick the pieces up or anything. It makes for a very fun playing experience and also includes pieces for chess, checkers, and backgammon.The only downside we had with it was that the pieces are a little difficult to fit back in the board because the magnets cause them to move around. So maybe making the board slightly taller so everything fits nicely

It opens to provide a 10 inch board using magnetic pieces that are large enough for comfortable play. The pieces are attractively formed and finished. The magnets are strong enough that the board can take some mild jostling but not so strong as to be noticeable when moving the pieces. I do wish that there was something that would hold the board flat when open.

This portable 3 in 1 game set is great for bringing on vacation but can also be fun to use at home. We’ve played checkers and chess so far and are looking forward to learning how to play backgammon.
