Mysteries of the Deep South
This is my first book by Kenneth Brooks and what an interesting read it is. The book maintains its own style for the length of it as it builds the tension throughout. The question of just what can Mama Lacee do stays with you and events unravel and her enemies start falling prey to strange afflictions. The baddies of the piece get a lot of attention though I feel that Mama Lacee was nicely underplayed, leaving something for the next novel perhaps?I enjoyed this quite a lot, but found myself slightly irritated at typos and the formatting of the ebook. Though it isn't really that bad as I find I am getting pickier with that sort of thing. All in all though, if you want a book about the deep South of America and the power of one lady, then this will be a riveting read as I found it to be.

Hard to put down
I enjoyed the book and got caught up in the action. I wanted the ending to be different. All things didn't need to be resolved, but I felt that more could have happened before the book ended. However, people have said the same about Hitchcock movies. It was fun to get to know the characters, and I am hoping there will be a sequel. If you want a fun read for a great price, load this onto your kindle and curl up for a visit with Mama Lacee!..

Riveting story with some tech flaws and abrupt end
I received this book free for an honest review. It's my general rule that I won't accept a book for review without checking the Look Inside feature on Amazon first. I'm glad I did.The Good...Don't be fooled by the less than appealing cover. The story is riveting. It's a wonderful glimpse into a time of rampant racism and blatant abuses of power. Best of all, there's plenty of spirituality (the author considers it paranormal activity) to intrigue those who enjoy peeking behind the veil of reality. The Not-so-good...I don't know if it was the author's intent or not, but there is a lot of jumping between point of view and past and present tense. At times it feels like there's an outside narrator and then the character seems to take over the telling of a scene. It can be rather disconcerting. Also, there are some formatting issues where paragraphs look strange. The biggest drawback of the entire story is the abrupt ending. I would have liked to have known what happened to the rest of the people in the story once the "bad guy" is defeated. Did they learn from what happened and become better people? And what about the business men? What did they do? What happened to those who enforce the laws? If Brooks ever decides to release an updated version of Mama Lacee, I hope he considers giving his reader a good denouement to this marvelous story. The Overall...If you can get past technical flaws in the writing and don't mind an abrupt end, Mama Lacee by Kenneth Brooks is a fantastic read.

Heart-felt drama
Fear. worry. Death. Ordinary people needing respect...what happens in that process places these characters on a stage of swampland with an entanglement of small town secrets. Characters you will applaud and those you will hate. Very Good read!!

Good story, needs work
The sympathetic main characters are well developed, but the villaneous ones are not. The book could use more background information about the town and local industry (if any)and more specifics about the distances between the various places where action takes place. The basic story is fascinating and the reader's attention is held up to the somewhat surprising conclusion.
