Disney-Pixar's epic fantasy adventure Brave harnesses the magic of ancient Scotland, weaving the rich natural setting throughout the story and bringing it to life. Scottish-born Patrick Doyle, only the fourth composer to write a score for a Pixar film, used a variety of native Scottish instruments such as bagpipes, solo fiddle, Celtic harps, flutes and the bodhran. To give the score a contemporary and fresh feel he included original bespoke electronic sounds and electronically treated dulcimer and cimbalom. Two new songs performed by acclaimed Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis are among the film’s musical highlights. “Learn Me Right” is an original song performed by Birdy and the Grammy-nominated British folk rock group Mumford & Sons, who also wrote, arranged and produced the track.

GREAT CD!
What a fantastic soundtrack! All the songs complement the movie but also works on its own. If you like Scottish-like music and the voices of this incredibly brave characters, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT! The lullaby is amazing and wow, Emma Thompson is a great singer, AHHH, PATRICK DOYLE, What an amazing composer! He also composed music for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Eragon (2006), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Thor(2011), Sense and Sensibility (1995), Hamlet (1996), and Gosford Park (2001), as well as Henry V much earlier in the 80s. Fantastic! It arrived the next day. I have not checked how to get the MP3 that it says it comes with, but hopefully it will work.

A Brave New World
I bought this for my daughters 8th birthday, fully understanding that this was not the typical Disney style singalong music format. The music and lyrics are outstanding, and surprisingly, my daughter has taken to this CD really quite enthusiastically. From an adult point of view, the riffs and vocals are enough, in a couple of places, to make your hair stand on end and a little shiver up the spine compelling you to smile at the speakers! Wonderful stuff, Mr Doyle! We now have it in the car, bedroom and lounge... surprising me and my daughter.

Brave CD - wonderful music but strange ordering of tracks
The music from this score is wonderful, a huge hit for the whole family (our 5yr old daughter is a big fan of Merida, Queen Elinor etc). My only complaint is the ordering of the tracks, which does not always follow the film sequence, so it is hard unless you have all the titles to hand to figure out where you are in the story (perhaps this is only relevant for younger children who want to match the track with the respective scene in the film!) But a very beautiful soundtrack.

Memories
This sound track brings back great memories from my childhood and holidays spent in scotland and ireland. The music is so uplifting and makes you want to sing loudly, tap your feet/hands and dance if you can. Sadly I can't because of health reasons but in no way does that take away from pure joy I get when listening to the CD. I strongly recommend you buy it and try it for yourself!

All the joy of Billy Connolley without a single swear-word
All the joy of Billy Connolley without a single swear-word ... who'd have thought it possible? We absolutely adore this one! I shan't go into the plot or the staffing or the wonderful songs (we've watched it easily a dozen times, and still find new things each time) but they've caught the Scottish countryside and character down to the last feather on the last arrow. Escapism? You bet~!

music from the film
The songs on the cd are great. The first three songs have lyrics which my kids like but their favourite is No. 10 the song about murdoo which Billy Connolly and the cast sing, it's such a catchy song and it always on repeat in the house ! very highly recomended if your daughter or son is a Brave fan !
