I wish the manufacturers would stop trying to sound more "scientific" for lack of the better word - VRLA type is simply a Gel-type battery.Keep this in mind if you ever try to recharge it by a normal battery charger. Select "Gel" charging and you should be OK. I used "Motorcycle" setting for this battery's predecessor - it's small, right? - didn't work out too well ;o)This unit came with approx. 70% charge. I ran it in the UPS with no load for 24 hours to charge it up to the full and then re-assembled the UPS. So far so good.

I literally got the battery today and charged it to start using it, its swollen now from the first charge
