Slow and boring book that plods along what could have been a mildly interesting story.
A slow moving book, with more time spent on describing the surroundings than progressing with the story. You can skip many pages and find the author is still describing the same set of buildings / area / field etc. None of the characters was particularly likeable, and so you find yourself not really caring about any of them or where the story goes. The only reason it gets 2 rather than 1 star is that it's a part of 21st America that both geographically and culturally I had never seen depicted in a novel. In that respect, and that respect alone it was interesting.

Couldn't finish
So disappointed, I loved Sing, Unburied Sing. And was really looking forward to this, but gave up after 35% on Kindle. The story didn't grip me at all.

Beautifully written, a close knit family; rural life in the southern states of north America..
Tension builds up as the hurricane blows nearer and nearer until it hits with full force.Tender, without the hearts and flowers, cruel and sad and savage..

Required reading
Painfully beautiful language. I was absorbed immediately and spent hours in someone else's shoes. Soaking up their reality. Remembering to see through someone else's eyes.
